Lifeline+ACP: New tablet, unlimited talk, text and data
NOTICE: Thanks to the new Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), you can now get Unlimited Data AND a free government cell phone at the same time. For more info, click here
Q Link Wireless was once a major player in the free government cell phone business, but it has suffered through some tough times lately. Nevertheless it still offers Lifeline and ACP plans in these states: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Let’s briefly outline the plans they offer:
Lifeline Plan
-
Free SIM card*
1000 minutes talk
Unlimited texts
4.5GB data
Lifeline is called the free government cell phone plan, NOT the free government SIM card plan. If you are only interested in in a free government cell phone instead of the more comprehensive ACP plan, this is not the plan for you.
ACP Plan
-
New tablet*
1000 minutes talk
Unlimited texts
Unlimited data
*Subject to a contribution of a $10.01 co-payment. Subject to product availability.
Lifeline + ACP Plan
-
New tablet*
Unlimted talk
Unlimited texts
Unlimited data
*Once again, subject to a contribution of a $10.01 co-payment. Subject to product availability.
ACP Device Discount
The good news isn’t done yet. When you enroll in an ACP plan, you get a one-time discount of up to $100 on a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer. Depending on which one you choose, you will get your device for a co-payment of more than $10 but less than $50. So before you buy that Q Link tablet for $10.01, check with Q Link customer service to find out what else may be available.
How to qualify for a Lifeline and ACP service
Qualifying for a StandUp Wireless phone is easy if you are one of the many financially disadvantaged these days. In general, any of the following qualifies you:
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps or SNAP)
- Medicaid
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)
- Veterans Pension and Survivor's Benefit.
- Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance (BIA)
- Tribally Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (Tribal TANF)
- Tribal Head Start (only those households meeting its income qualifying standard)
- Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
Qualifying for the ACP discounts is even easier. The program participation with which you an qualify are almost identical, but the income eligibility is much more lenient. You can qualify as long as you make less than 200% of the Federal poverty guideline numbers.
Be Sure to Compare Q Link Wireless with Other Options in Your State
This is just one of the many Lifeline Cell Phone providers in your state. Some states have over a dozen cell phone providers to choose from. Plans and phone choices often vary substantially between providers and you owe it to yourself to look at them all. Free Government Cell Phones says
Q Link was caught up in a scandal in which they stole more than $100 million from the Lifeline program.
Q Link appears to be inactive as an independent entity. Its operations are now closely tied to StandUp Wireless, another provider of Lifeline and Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) services. Customers seeking assistance with Q Link Wireless services are redirected to StandUp Wireless for government phone and data benefits. StandUp Wireless currently facilitates Lifeline and ACP programs under the same umbrella.
If you need specific information about transitioning services or other details, contacting StandUp Wireless would be a helpful next step.

It sounds as if you signed up for a plan that provided a SIM card instead of a free government cell phone. You are free to enroll with any other service provider in your state, but make sure you tell them you want a plan with a cell phone, NOT just a SIM card.

Free Government Cell Phones says
We think you do pretty damn good, too, Bill. Just because you give up on Q Link and Safelink is no reason to give up on the free government cell phone business. You can always switch to a different and, hopefully, you will get better results.

How do I disconnect my phone?
Free Government Cell Phones says
Are you asking how to cancel your Lifeline service? If that’s the case, simply call 6-1-1 on your free government cell phone and you will be connected to your service provider’s customer service team.
Henry says
If you are attempting to completely turn off your phone for a reason (such as a stalker), all you have to do is not to power on your phone for 30 days and it should be disconnected from the service provider automatically. Note that to reconnect the service, you will need to reapply as a new customer (and reconfirm your eligibility). Service providers will not reactivate accounts that have been turned off.
Loretta says
Qlink sent a tablet to the wrong address it was sent back I have already verified this through ups . Amazon needs to get qlinks info to search for the returned tablet and qlink won’t call them. They also took 10.01 and for a tablet that they didn’t send . They said I received the tablet in Dec. Of 2021 so I could not get one. They won’t return my money either
Henry says
This is why I always recommend that you pay by credit card so that you have dispute rights to get a refund after 60 days of not receiving the merchandise from a seller. Dec. 2021 is way beyond any right of dispute period. If you paid by check or debit card, getting a refund will be just as hard. There incorrect delivery actions need to go someone higher up the chain in the company. But, many of these Lifeline providers do not have a problem resolution department.

Dave says
I have a Q-link account since Dec 2021 and the phone still doesn’t work. When it was activated I made one phone call and then it stopped connecting any new calls Their customer service dept is impossible to talk to a real person. Still. every month they send a notice that I haven’t used the phone and ask if I still want service and I say yes.. I’ve spent almost an hour on hold or answering computer questions that aren’t relevant and have NEVER been able to break out of the loop to talk to a person, they are ripping off the government charging for phones they don’t support. Someone told me I could complain to my local city government because they approve the companies that are used in their city. Is that correct?

Q Link is the worst has the worst customer service. They kick people out there whole life line service when you do not choose them to be in the EBB program. Q Link had discriminated my service due to asking them to disable my EBB program with them. I did not consent to have Q Link to be the one to have EBB with my life line service. The internet data is supper slow. It practically go’s nowhere.
Well now I’m at a point where I do not have a phone to call or receive calls. I attempted to talk to a rep on Q link, but all the reps had hung up on me. I don’t understand how they actually have the nerve to hang up on customers. BOY COTT Q LINK!!!

STAY away from QLink Wireless. Their coverage and service is horrible. I live in a rural area and the coverage with it was bad, but since last month, June 2021, I get NO coverage at all. My Dad has Assurance Wireless, another Lifeline Provider and in this area, and he’s getting excellent coverage. I know people paying top dollar with ATT or Verizon and I’m getting similar coverage to theirs in this rural area where the Towers are pretty far. I’ll be canceling QLink for good… GOOD RIDDANCE
Pat says
I didn’t order the Link, but I received a big envelope with a sim card in it, who ever ordered this, they put it in my sons name, and he don’t live here! I talked to him and and he said to open the envelope, I did, told him what it was, he said he didn’t order it! But he also said he might know who did! I tried to call this Qlink, all I get is how to get it started, that’s not why I been trying to get a hold of them, I just want to tell Qlink that, no one at my house did not order this packet, neither did my son. My son been out out of town since January of 2021, won’t be back in till August. I need to talk to someone at Qlink, not a computer! I tried everything number, and received nothing. I’ll give ya my email, I need for someone to get a hold of me back.this is very important! The person that ordered this, is not right in the head, it was my sons ex girlfriend, which is a trouble maker, and theiph, don’t want nothing to do with that crazy person, please I need to get a hold of a live person at Qlink. Hope you can help, My name is Pat, **********@gmail.com, thank you.

why is qlink charging $10.01 for a FREE, paid for by us government..tablet? who do i report this to? oh..they said it would be refunded once aswell..help
Free Government Cell Phones says
Please send us a link to that sale item.
Here’s our guess off the tops of our heads, but we assume it is correct: The free government cell phone program offers, as it’s name implies, a free cell phone, not a free tablet. There is a considerable upgrade from a cell phone to a tablet and we would guess that accounts for the difference.

I think a clarification is needed regarding the Lifeline program since its inception from 1985. The program is intended to provide broadband service to low income people. There is no provision to provide devices to access that service. Some providers MIGHT offer one in certain cases, but that is a big MAYBE. As for the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) that offers a desktop, laptop, or tablet offer, the customer MUST pay at least over $10 and less than $50 for the device. It is NOT free. I have seen some of the laptop EBB offers and they are very old laptop technology with CPUs from Intel’s 2nd generation ICore CPU series. The most recent Intel iCore CPU is 11th generation. The others are Chromebooks (low in RAM and hard drive space). So the device you get from the EBB program is the ancient technology stuff from years ago.
The following is taken from QLink’s site which implies that NO phone is provided.
———————————————————————————————————–
What is the tablet offer?
EBB-eligible customers will receive a new tablets are part of the Emergency Broadband Benefit device discount. Customers are required to pay a co-pay of $10.01. This is a limited-time offer, subject to product availability & operated by the FCC.

UNLIMITED Text & picture message
UNLIMITED Data for email and apps
GPS capability for use with Map and Directions apps
A mobile browser to surf the web, and more

You might get a free phone or device out the "goodness of their heart", but, don't bet on it.

I need to know what to do. The phone I’m using is brand new , never been activated until I received my q link sim, it is a moto G9 play, can some one please help me?

Q Link is getting terrible reviews lately, but we would still suggest that you start off by calling customer service at 6-1-1 on your free government cell phone to speak to customer service.
Andrew R Barbay says
try contacting Qlink and find out
Steven says
Q Link is not the phone company it used to be. The customer service is one of the worst companies I have ever had the “pleasure” of dealing with. Today I go to make a phone call after months of my phone working perfectly fine and all the sudden now, I am getting a message that says “The service you are attempting to use is either restricted or unavailable” if im not on hold for hours at a time (mind you, I do work) I can’t make calls now and I called customer service never got a clear answer why my calls aren’t working all the sudden and that I have to wait 48 to 72 hours for service to be restored. What if I have an emergency?! This phone company has been nothing but disappointing to say the very least. Save yourself time and stress and go with another company if you can!
Free Government Cell Phones says
We’d love to know what’s going on at Q Link. Our readers’ comments in the last few months have been devastating.

I have had Qlink for over five years, and they sent me a new sims card for my phone and now it doesn’t work at all. I can’t make calls or receive calls. And everytime I call the company I have to hold for two to three hours at a time. They are turning out to be the worst company ever.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Something seems to have gone horribly wrong at Q Link. We have been getting nothing but complaints about the company, its phones, and its customer service lately.

My husband had a lifeline phone we think it was through safelink. He had to pay $20 for it when he got lifeline services but he got unlimited talk and text and some data. He had this plan for several months without issue untl he dropped and totally broke phone screen. We ordered a new phone which cost us double the cost of original but when we tried to turn on phone and transfer personal info to new phone we were told we only had 250 min a month by one guy and 350 a month by another both saying we have never had unllimited min ,very rudely I might ad, and we did. We never had any issues until he broke phone screen and now we cant seem to get the same plan we had . Safelink told us they dont even do unlimited plans andit says online everywhere that they do so how camin I go back and get my phone on with my original plan?how can i prove i þçdid have unlimited min?

As you can see on our Safelink Page, the company clearly offers unlimited plans, but there’s a catch. If you get your phone from them there are unlimited plans available. But if you only get a SIM card, the plans are limited to 350 minutes. Seems backwards, doesn’t it?
angie padilla says
I have had my phone like 2wks. I can’t activate it. I’ve tried. I don’t think it’s the right SIM card either. My goodness I can’t get it to activate. My main problem is trying to contact the company. Can someone plz tell me how I can get help.

Roger Healey says
QLink is a terrible service. I did notget a smart phone, or any kind of free phone from QLink. I had to buy my own smart phone. QLink web site said my smart phone was compatible. It was not. QLink customer service is almost worthless. It is hard to get a hold of anybody how is competent to answer my questions.

James Myers says
I have been with Qlink for a couple years, but the phone they gave me is very glitchy and cheap, ZTE. The phone was dropped and was no longer workable. I checked the Qlink website for compatibility on a Google Pixel 2, which they claimed was indeed compatible. They sent me a new sim card and could not activate the phone sitting inside my home. Come to find out, the new sim card was a T-mobile, which has no coverage inside my home. Called Qlink to resolve, spent countless hours explaining my original ZTE phone had a Sprint sim card (which worked flawlessly) but they sent me a T-mobile sim card for replacement. Requested a Sprint sim card for my Google Pixel 2 and they sent me another T-mobile sim card. BTW, the Google Pixel 2 is a combination CDMA /GSM phone, it will work on either network. Well after numerous calls and no resolution, I am currently researching the Lifeline phone providers, to find out which ones have the best coverage for my area and switching, I would not recommend Qlink to anyone, when I did talk to a support person, it was extremely difficult to understand them, and they couldn’t seem to comprehend the issues that I was dealing with. They basically refused to resolve my issue, and no longer respond to my email requests.
J P says
I had the same problem, received 4 SIM cards that didn’t work, my phone is a CDMA and they sent GSM cards, no help from customer service, they insisted I received the correct SIM card. . Now they say my town qualifies, but not my address. THIS RURAL TOWN IS ONE SQUARE MILE IN SIZE. How can my neighbor ( less than 20′ away) receive Qlink lifeline service but not me. I’m looking for another service too. .
Free Government Cell Phones says
The remarkable inefficiency of customer service can be incredibly frustrating, can’t it?
Michael says

Free Government Cell Phones says
Sounds like you inadvertently signed up for the wrong plan, Angela. Call 6-1-1 to speak to Q Link customer service and see if they will allow you to switch your plan. If not, you can always switch to a different service provider after 60 days.
Thomas Patton says
Buyer Beware! QLink used to offer reasonably priced Replacement phones if you wanted a better phone. I purchase a $139 Motorola phone. However, the power button came off and it can’t be replaced by QLink. However, Motorola will repair or replace it for more than what I paid for it from QLink, plus, an additional $40.00 shipping charge. Therefore, I am now out of $139 since I will be replacing the phone and getting new service through another carrier. ADDITIONALLY… QLink no long has reasonably priced Replacement phones. They no longer carry Motorola, and their name brand phones such as Samsung or LG are around $799 or $899… I mean really? These are options for people who have low income?
Joni says
I bought a cool pad phone thru boost at Walmart. Will the boost SIM card work on qlink

Stephona J Hubbard says
QLink’s customer service is downright deplorable. Representatives can only lifelessly offer canned responses to questions about issues that do not resolve the problem. Asking to speak to a supervisor begins a sometimes 2-day process that still may not provide needed information or resolutions. Phones are very often refurbished, outdated equipment. As long as you can get a phone that works and does what you need, this company is “just ok”. If you ever have questions or problems, expect time-consuming frustration .

When placing a call it also says thank you for choosing Verizon please hang up and dial *611 or it will say sprint error 97. I have tried different Sim cards ( brand new). But other times I can call out but never do I receive a call unless it’s my ole man. I get text messages once and a while. Plz help me.

Sally says
I got the card but How can I use it without a phone
Free Government Cell Phones says
You can’t. You need a phone. You apparently signed up for a plan that provided you with a chip. That kind of plan is intended for someone who has a phone or intends to go out and buy one. We assume you got some internet usage with that same plan because that’s usually how they are structured.

Hi I see my comment is gone so u must be reading it. I have tried to call at least 15 times today. I listened to the whole recording each time and was told to turn my phone on for 5 minutes and get back to them. I did so! But to tell me the same thing 15 times was ridiculous. Could u pls look into this and give me a phone # that I can actually speak to a representative/agent, a live person. If u can’t do that do u have another way I can address this problem. At this point, I have NO MINUTES. I was told I have 970 minutes left on my phone. They are trying to change my phone and put my minutes on it. Pls give me an answer I can use. Even if it’s on the same phone I rec’d from u. I don’t like the thought of being stuck on the rd w/no phone.

Norlyn Nelson says
I received a phone in place of my old flip phone it didn’t work when I got it but they would not send me another one and I tried for about a year then I decided to send them the money that they wanted for a phone but I never received the phone and now they’re saying they never received any money but they cashed the money order. Taking over 3 years of telling them at least several times a month that I don’t have a phone when they tell me all about all the wonderful minutes and data I have they never shut me off but they never responded! So now I’m just riding around I might as well pay them the money for another time for the phone. So that would be $50 for a piece of shit phone if they send me the same as they sent me before that didn’t work which was the shittiest in cheapest and lowest grade smartphone that exist, but there’s many times when I really could have used that phone and really needed it! So three years that’s how I decided to turn in my flip phone for one that had the flash content to be able to even handle data! But just don’t want to make sure I keep the little tag on the money order that I’m sending and I’m going to take pictures of it before I send it so they can’t tell me that they didn’t receive the money! And how would they know anyways they keep the rottenness records that ever was they can’t even get back to me in over 3 years when they say they’ll get back to me the many times that I glimpsed messages in different ways! They always said they review my message and get back to me and never ever did! They got the money for the when they didn’t send me and I don’t like paying money twice for the same thing but I guess I got no choice but it’s not going to happen again!
Free Government Cell Phones says
Terrible story, Norlyn. You should definitely file formal complaints. Here’s an article that tells you exactly what to do:

Don’t bother with Q-Link unless you think you’ll never lose your phone or want to buy a replacement.. Losing my phone was completely my fault and I was willing to buy the $25 replacement instead of just hopping services like I used too. But they wouldn’t take either of my cards even though they say they take Discover and Mastercard. I tried to purchase via the website and got a popup saying my cards were “blacklisted’…These are my current cards in good standing, never stolen. I don’t know what they mean.
I attempted to contact customer service via both phone (they say they will call you back if you want) and email and no reply. Sent a follow up email about a week later and still no reply. The first email was very detailed so they would understand what I needed help with and I was clear I had lost my phone. Now today they have canceled my account, so I have sent an email AGAIN this time asking why as I reported it lost and asking for reinstatement. I doubt I’ll hear back.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had trouble with customer service. The concept of Lifeline is great but the service greatly need improvement. Phones are still tinny, you can’t always (if ever) bring one lifeline phone to another lifeline service (so have to just trash phone), customer service can be difficult to contact (some don’t even have a contact email). This program is suppose to help people stay connected; I was totally willing to pay for a new phone but they just didn’t want to help me.

Barb Carver says
I have been with QLink for over 3 years and had no problem with them until I purchased a new phone from them. Not one of the cheap $25.00 phones but a $139.00 phone. When I moved from one apartment to another apartment, in the same building, they couldn’t seem to get my new apartments number to update. For over 10 month’s I called to try to update my address, which resulted in the same problem, they couldn’t get it to update. Was this my fault? No. So when I went to order my new phone, I specifically called customer service to make sure that the phone I was ordering was sent to my current address, not the one that they had on file. The customer service representative assured me that it would get sent to the current address. I waited and watched when it would be delivered. I got the notice that it had been delivered and went to my mailbox to find it empty. Come to find out, it had been delivered to my old apartment. To make a very long story short, the people living in the apartment had got the phone but told the manager of the building that they had thrown it away. When I showed the manager that they had indeed used the phone, she told them that they could be evicted for theft. In the meantime, I called the post office, my debit card to put a stop on the payment, called the police to make a police report and I had called Q-Link to report that the phone was sent to the wrong address and had been stolen. I was informed by Q-Link that it was too bad, that none of their services are guaranteed and I would just have to order a new phone. AUFKM!!! I wouldn’t have thought too much about it had it of been $25.00, but $139.95, that is a lot of money to me because I live off of SSDI. After a week of pondering what I could do about getting a new phone, the people that stole it showed up at my door with the $139.95 because they didn’t want to be evicted. So I called my debit card company and told them to cancel the stop payment, which they did. Which means that I did not receive any money back from Q-Link or otherwise. I reordered the phone, contacted the post office and told them that they were sending me another phone and to make sure it went in my current address, not the old one, which they did. So I am thinking everything is just fine. Until I got an email stating that I was almost out of minutes. So I went online and tried to order their $2.00 bundle for unlimited minutes and other stuff. I received a message that I could not use a card to purchase anything because it had a chargeback on it and that it had to be in the form of a money order. With it being on a Saturday, I couldn’t call them, they are the only company for lifeline phones that are only open M-F from 8-6. That is another drawback with this company, plus the fact that you can be on hold for up to an hour just waiting to talk to a person. So I emailed them asking them to allow me to purchase things with my debit card because there had not been a chargeback on the card. I even sent them 2 different statements from the debit card company that there had not been any money recovered because I had canceled the request. I got an email back from them telling me to contact them to get this problem fixed. So on Monday I called and told the customer service person the issue and he said that he would run a different card if I had one, which I did. The same thing came up, I had a chargeback on the card, I couldn’t have it was a different card that I had just got on the previous Friday. So I asked to speak with a supervisor, after being on hold for 30 minutes, I finally get a supervisor. I explained the circumstances of what had happened, how I sent in the proof that I had not received any money back and would like to get some minutes on my phone. I think they all read off a script because he kept repeating to me the same phrase that the customer service person had repeatedly said to me. “You had a chargeback on this card and you can’t purchase anything unless you buy it with a money order.” After hearing that for the 100th time, I became very upset and told him I was not stupid, I had heard him but he was not listening to me. Needless to say, he continued to interrupt me when I was trying to explain to him about sending in proof that I had not received any money back and should be able to purchase minutes. After a time, I got tired of being disrespected, interrupted and I went South on him. He said that he was not going to be talked to in that manner, even though he was extremely rude to me and if I used one more swear words he would hang up on me. Well, I told him he didn’t have to worry about that, and I hung upon him. What kind of lifeline program doesn’t take responsibility for anything that they offer and when you have proof of something completely ignores it? I would have understood if I had received the money back, but when they are refusing to let me purchase minutes with any card, that is stepping over the line. So I have reported them to the BBB, Universal Service Administration Company, the State Utility Service and the FCC. I will probably have to find a new provider, but after being treated like a criminal that is fine with me. I would not recommend this company to anyone after this.

I’d like to share an experience I had with qlink for those who are trying to make a decision. I have been with them for about a year, and honestly had no problems. I found out that Safelink offered 2gb of data, so I decided to give them a try and see if I could get a signal with any of the 3 providers they work with. I contacted qlink about a number port and letting them know I was switching service providers.
Qlink responded, but not in the way that a rational company would. All of my account information was deleted, so I don’t even have an account number to give to safelink. They have been hanging up on me, disconnected the phone number I was trying to port, and are no longer even letting me through to speak to anyone. I’m actually willing to pay for the number to be forwarded, but they won’t even let me offer to do so because they’re blocking my calls now. I understand I can’t have multiple lifeline providers, but there’s a legal process to port numbers, and they’re clearly not following it. Willing to work with them and find an alternative, but have gotten the cold shoulder.
As I said, for the year I had qlink, I had no issues. The only times I ever contacted them, they’ve been very polite and their support staff is easy to understand. But it rubs me the wrong way that they’re so resentful of a transfer out. I would have likely returned, because I’ve now found that all three other major carriers do not have a decent signal here, so I’m stuck with Sprint… But not with qlink, I will not return to them due to this. So here I am again to find another provider, and I’ll have to switch yet again after the 60 day window is up.
Just a “user beware” post. QLink isn’t all bad, but my experience turned sour very quickly when I actually needed them. Just something to keep in mind.

I’m looking for a company in the Washington State area that has simple phones for their plans. I have a hard time navigating the “smart” ones and don’t need or desire anything but a talk/text phone. Have they gone obsolete or is there still an option somewhere? thx.
Free Government Cell Phones says
We do not know of any service providers who are still offering old-fashioned flip phones. Readers? Do you know any?
However, there is an option. Check to find which Lifeline companies offering plans in your state also offer Bring Your Ow Phone options. That would allow you to go out and purchase whatever compatible phone you want and use it as your free government cell phone.
Anna says
BYO phone sounds good but I can guarantee that your phone isn’t compatible. My LG phone isn’t compatible with Qlink, while Qlink is trying to sell me some unbranded phone for $25 that looks exactly like mine. Probably another ZTE garbage that I ended up tossing in the trash

Lena Mushkina says
I am trying to get a free phone and service from Qlink for my father for 6 weeks now. It is feels like they make fun of us. It took time to understand how the papers should be filled. finally, in 4 weeks it was done and we were emailed about a phone that was sent for us (which we paid for, by the way). The phone was “dead on arrival”. We tried to charge it, took to the “radio shack”-to the specialist-to find, what was wrong. No one could find the reason and fix it. So, I called the company and their agent emailed us a return label and promised to replace the phone. Instead, in two weeks, when we did not hear from the company, we called. To our surprise the automatic voice informed us that our account was cancelled because we returned the phone…I am trying to contact the live person, sent messages through website (no email or chat are available). Still nothing. what should we do next?
Free Government Cell Phones says
No one has ever accused the Lifeline companies of investing heavily in customer service. It is probably our readers’ most frequent bitch. Because you’ve had this much trouble with Q Link, we recommend that you attempt to enroll with any other company offering Lifeline service in your area. You can check them all out here:
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/states
Check them all out very closely to find the one that offers a plan that fits your needs best.

Would someone, a real, live person, please help this old guy, who has been trying to help a paralyzed woman, who is a patient in a nursing home, with no phones in the rooms, to get a phone, so she can connect with the outside world and get the things she needs? Please! I’ve made application to Q Link, (enrollment #95389653) and sent PA State documentation of her Medicaid status. The app process then led me to LifeLine, where I filled out their app for eligibility, but I’m now stuck at that point – I don’t know what to do next. Maybe, I was supposed to go to LifeLine first, but I think I got bad info from my PA State Rep. LifeLine asks me to select a phone company, and when I select Q Link, it says the app has been cancelled and I must go back to the beginning – but, the beginning of what?? I’m the woman’s outside caregiver and “gopher”, but I must leave here for two weeks of work in California. Since I actually began this process with Q Link about a month ago, I was hoping I could succeed in getting her a phone before I leave here April 17. So, my appeal is: Is there someone with a heart who would be willing to please help me complete this process for Katrina, because this little man is stuck? I also found note of a second number that could pertain to enrollment at some time: #95689180, but I’m not sure, as there have been several people trying to help her, but they’ve quit, and I’m still trying. Please help! Please call 610-781-**** or email *************@Comcast.net.

After reading the nightmare scenarios and complaints on service and customer service, I’ve opted to buy a $30 cheap track phone and use txt now app. I’m limited to wi fi only but can usually find a business with public wi fi access. If I can afford to top up my old flip phone for the month it’s a bonus to have that convience. I understand this option probably won’t work for most individuals though. I’m fortunate to live with someone who has regular service.
I haven’t seen anything regarding if you port an existing number to a government phone if you can get it back if you cancel and are able to get regular service.
I’m not sure on the land line option but it may be a way to have a more stable service without all the legal and other minutes, data, roll over, no roll over, charge extra, penalized, etc traps that appear to be in just about all the terms and conditions of what I have read on different carriers.
If no frills communication is what is needed landlines seems best way. But of course there are circumstances where that isn’t best for some individuals.
I’ve decided not to go the free government phone route for simplicity sake. An old flip phone and cheap track phone for wi fi and a close companion with regular service is my choice and advice if it works for anyone who just doesn’t want to get caught in the trap of what I see government phones have to offer.
On the other hand I’m sure or at least I hope the phones and plans do work for those who have no other options.
All the above is my opinion of course. But perhaps some will agree. Thanks for reading. I know it was long winded but the points made are relevant.

Any idea HOW to “call Q Link”. I don’t have, have never had, and never will have a free phone, but Q Link insists on sending me weekly usage statements along with other undesired e-mails. There voice mail system, once you get through a zillion members, requires the phone number on the account (reasonable), which is on all the statements they send, but then it want all sorts of personal info (date of birth, zip code, and ssn), which invariably fails, since it’s NOT my account. How am I supposed to kill it if I can’t reach them – I’ve sent reply e-mails and e-mailed from their website, with NO reply.
I don’t suppose you know how to reach a human there?

Question is in regard to how I go about switching providers? Last year I was automatically given Qlink so I need to know how to prevent it.
How do I keep my same phone number?
I have my own cell phone now. How can I transfer service with my same number to existing provider or new provider?
How do I keep my phone number?
Free Government Cell Phones says
The only reason you should have been transferred to a different service provider is if your old provider went out of business. Is that what happened when you were switched to Q Link?
You can switch service providers any time you want. Here’s an article that tells you how to do it:
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/faq/how-do-i-switch-lifeline-providers
You can keep your old number by telling the new service provider’s customer service rep that, “I want to port over my current phone number.” That should be all you need to do. But before you say good-bye to that rep, make sure that you confirm that your current number is being ported over.
dan weiner says
The site is not updated. I have Q-Link and I get 1000 minutes. How do I know if the other provider information is accurate? I can’t believe I have to call every company.
Free Government Cell Phones says
We can’t believe it either, Dan. We should be freakin’ horsewhipped for not having every one of the thousands of pieces of information on this website updated every hour on the hour so that you are not inconvenienced in the slightest. Shame on us. We are low-life dogs unworthy of your respect or your consideration. Maybe you should punish us by visiting some other website that has every imaginable piece of Lifeline data updated so that you need to nothing for yourself. What’s that? Our office intern just reminded us that there are no other sites that compare to this one. So it looks like you’re out of luck, Dan.

😂😂😂😂this is seriously the most hilarious thread I have ever seen!! I am so glad I came across this Gem!!! I am ecstatic to have cheap, endless, tantalizing entertainment to enjoy with my friends and loved ones!! My Son and I will reconnect our special bond ruined by teenage boredom and dislike of parental units!! You’ve saved our Mother-Son relationship as he will now realize I am super cool and funny and know where the good is at!! Thank You not only for the belly laughs but for the invaluable Advanced Education that he will receive from this! Proof that all the years of Mom instilling her “Momness” and “annoying nagging” in regards to Grammatical and Punctual errors, Critical Thinking Skills, Common sense, every action has a consequence, if you dont use it you lose it, Self-Sufficiency, work hard on your education now so in the future you do what you enjoy and work isnt “work” but waking up to get paid to be Happy, Joyous, and free!!, Manners ARE Important, remember this simple ratio of opinion and rationale as evidenced here is safe to say 1 Alcoholic Beverage or 1 time of getting High on Chemicals = loss -1 IQ Point, and it is true “when your dumb, you suffer”!!! I would love to know who you are and meet you!! I would never be bored or annoyed of being your friend and im certain every encounter is like the 1st again and again!!! ALSO YOU CERTAINLY DESERVE A RAISE AND SHOULD BE CEO OF DEALING WITH all people associated with the terms “free” and “government”😂😂😂the best part 97% of your replies have gone over and under to be left unappreciated until a straggler like me finds the treausure!! Yes PEOPLE THEY ARE LAUGHING AT YOU!!!

James says
Do NOT use this company, they’re awful! My phone was stolen while I was in the hospital’s ICU. Qlink continued to provide service to whomever stole my phone, despite my multiple emails to them asking them to turn off my phone. When I asked Qlink to replace my stolen phone, me they wouldn’t- they said I had to pay $25. What kind of company does that?
Glenda Peterson says
I am power of attorney for my brother who resides in a nursing home. He had Qlink as a phone provider for about 5 years. He became unhappy with the service so I changed him to Safelink. Their rep told me they would take care of cancelling the Qlink account. They did not and after 4 months the Safelink account was deactivated because he had 2 accounts. I checked Qlink and it showed his account was pending disconnect so I have not signed up for Assurance Wireless service for him. Once I did that I was told that they only send android phones which is much too difficult for him to use. It shows that the status is still pending. How can I make sure that ALL accounts are cancelled so I can find a provider that still uses the standard flip phone? The is just not enough information given on how to make sure you have cancelled old providers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Unfortunately, Glenda, it sounds as if you’ve done everything correctly. It really is maddening when some companies don’t cancel an account like the rules and regulations say they should. There’s just not much you can do at this point.
Here’s one idea, though. Based on your description, we’re not sure which company your brother is enrolled with. Call that company and ask customer service if it offers a Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) program. Some companies refer to it as a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program. If your company does offer the program, ask customer service which types of phones you are allowed to use. Go out and purchase your brother an inexpensive new or pre-owned phone of the type he prefers and then use it with your current service provider’s service.
James says
Go to Freedompop. Or Redwallet. Or look on Whistleout.

Brandi says
First things first, thank you for all the comprehensive information you and your team have gathered here for us. It’s greatly appreciated and the site is super easy to navigate for comparison when deciding which provider to sign up with. I would have been lost when I first applied 2 years ago without your site.
Second, I must admit, I still come to this site when I’m bored sometimes just to read the comments from people who have no idea you’re not their service provider. It makes me feel way more competent than I actually am and your frequently off-the-cuff replies make it all the more enjoyable. I cannot fathom not reading a comment section before submitting a question but these people just blurt out their personal information on a public forum. It’s hilarious and sad at the same time.
Free Government Cell Phones says
You win our official Comment of the Day award, Brandi.
Shawna says
I have also been enjoying the comments here. Love the responses!
Free Government Cell Phones says
Some people love our responses, other people think we’re horrible people. We’re glad to know you fall in the first category.

Barry says
Sprint does not work at all where I live in Idaho. These companies who offer lifeline services here use Sprint. My current carrier is metro pcs who uses the T-Mobile network and works great. It costs me $30 a month. Some of these upgrades with these lifeline companies are the same money for less talk, text and data. So where is the advantage of me switching to a lifeline account? I cannot use it if there isnt any or scratchy service where my house is, and the upgrades cost either the same or more for less talk, text and data. They are trying to make it easier for people like me who are low income and disabled to communicate, but they fall short when they only use Sprint.

Lovella Harmon says
How can you switch users and keep your phone number?
Free Government Cell Phones says
Here’s an article that tells you how to swith service providers:
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/faq/how-do-i-switch-lifeline-providers
You can, indeed, keep your current number. All you need to do is tell the customer service rep that “I want to port over my current phone number.” Take our advice and say it at the beginning of the conversation, several more times during the conversation, and then repeat it at the end and ask the rep to confirm that your current phone number will be ported over.
Sally Hendricks says
My phone was stolen am not able to by another one
Free Government Cell Phones says
If you’ve been with your current service provider for 60 days, you can switch service provider’s if your service plan includes voice and data only. If it includes data, you must wait one full year to switch service providers.
Here’s an article that tells you exactly how to switch:
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/faq/how-do-i-switch-lifeline-providers
If you switch to a new service provider, they will be required to provide you with a smartphone.

Heather Rife says
I need a replacement phone mine fell and was ran over by a car ive had services for awhile just need phone replaced dont have any extra money to replace it but have had phone for awhile please let me know how to get a replacement phone
Free Government Cell Phones says
Two options, Heather. (1) Call your service provider’s customer service team. They’ll probably want to charge you for the upgrade/replacement, but you may get lucky and get one for free. It can’t hurt to ask. (2) If that doesn’t work, you can always switch service providers, because all service providers are required to give new customers smartphones. Here’s an article that tells you how to make the switch:

QLINK offers horrible phone service… After 3 months the cheap *** cellphone they sent stopped charging. You can NEVER get to talk to a person live… you call the number they SAY to call for customer service & the RECORDING says check the webstie… I sent an email & they replied saying I’d receive a response in 3-5 business days… yeah.. My LIFELINE cellphone is dead & their reply in 4 business days said check online for torubleshooting ideas…. NOBODY reads the correspondence..
QLINK IS NOT PROVIDING WORKABLE SERVICE AND NO CUSTOMER SERVICE TO RESOLVE ANY ISSUES…
noT LIKELY TO PRINT THIS ONE HUH? NOT EXACTLY THE PROPAGANDA PRAISING THIS QLINK S*** COMPANY…
jUST DOING YOUR JOB CENSORING THE TRUTH SO PEOPLE DON’T GET TO MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS, AND YOU CAN MAKE GENERIC MUNDANE comments like SORRY, check online to change to another piece of s*** company
Have a great day … You must feel great going home each night knowing that you’re doing s*** to make these service REALLY do their jobs… and YOU STILL GET PAID>>>> for what?
Free Government Cell Phones says
You are not only a foul-mouthed oaf, Rick, you are incorrect. We’ve run countless articles criticizing the government and the free government cell phone companies. And as your comments prove, the only censoring we do is on foul language. Not only do we run plenty of comments that are critical of Lifeline companies, their service, their lack of service, etc, but we often tell readers how to register official complaints about poor service.
Now how about if you set up a doctor appointment so that you can get a prescription for some much-needed Valium.
BillG says
LOL, your quite funny, I enjoy your style!
Free Government Cell Phones says
Thanks. We try to maintain calm personalities while moderating our readers comments, but every once in a while a complete jerk leaves a comment and we can’t hold back in our reply.

Free Government Cell Phones says
Readers tell us it’s difficult to get through to a real, live customer service agent, but you can find the contact info you need on this page, Steven.
THOMAS BURKE says
Qlink recently downgraded service to 350 minutes of talk a month. They tried to sugarcoat it by telling us they added 500mg of data which is nothing really. Don’t sugarcoat poo and tell me its candy Qlink!
Michael Kula says
Can I use my phone as a hot spot for my tablet?
Free Government Cell Phones says
Depends upon the phone. I know my iphone does it. And it looks like Android smartphones do too:
https://www.lifewire.com/use-your-android-phone-as-a-portable-wi-fi-hotspot-2377915
So, in general, if you \get a smartphone then, yes, you can.
Stephanie needs your help please says
Umm yeah, I wanted to know if there is any way to get a list of the processes and programs that Tha ZTE n817 comes with from factory…There are like 15 to 20 that I don’t recall ever seeing untill my phone took a crap and deleted as all my info and my contacts and like 5 company names popped up like Sprint, at&t, virgin.. ECT. I have downloaded the manual and searched it several times. Please help me, I actually like my free service and q links service but this phone has been doing weird crap.
Stephanie needs your help please says
Oh crap sorry I bothered you guys, I was so focused on how many dumb questions you guys have to deal with that I actually forgot you guys aren’t here for tech support. I apologise for the inconvenience.

You made us laugh, Stephanie. Thanks.
Virgil bailey says

Virgil bailey says
I virgil bailey applied for a free goverment phone and sent the paper work to Qlinks on March 14 but haven’t recited and phone letter or email. I called but couldn’t talk to and live person so please call me back on the number 325-207-**** my uncle sent off his paper work after me and recited his phone last week
Free Government Cell Phones says
We’re not Q Link, Virgil, so we can’t tell you the status of your application. However, you can find out by visiting the Q Link website. Click on “Help Center” then on “Check Status.”
JessieJames says
Trying to deactivate my q link wireless phone it was stolen but do not want a replace. 1-855-754-6543 doesn’t help. I’ve listened to everything. I just want to deactivate it. don’t want another one
Free Government Cell Phones says
The new rules of the Lifeline program require your service provider to cancel any accounts that go unused for 30 ads, Jessie.
carlis glynn says
I apply for government phone. Apply for government phone and I never received it
Free Government Cell Phones says
Check your service provider’s website. Most of them have a function that allows you to check the status of your application.
jose estrada says
why cant i see my minutes balance and also heard using data waist my minutes
Free Government Cell Phones says
We have no idea why you can’t see your minute balance, Jose. We’re not your service provider so it’s impossible for us to answer questions like that. However, we can answer the second question: No, using data will not have any impact on your minutes. They are separate totals.
Matt says
Got a court case and my ex deleted all the messages I needed for my case can I go online and get a print out or does it even keep them
Free Government Cell Phones says
Only Q Link customer service can answer that question for you, Matt. Contact them using the contact info provided in the article on this page.
Mingxiang Liu says
I am living in Ma as legal resident. when I applied the free cell phone, I could not be verified, I do not know why?
Free Government Cell Phones says
It’s impossible for us to know why you were not approved, Ming. We’re an independent website. Did Q Link give you any clues as to why your application was rejected?
Amy says
Isent in a copy of my medical assistance card to be able to get my free phone and I still have not recieved it yet.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Go to the Q Link website and click on “Help Center” and then on “Check Status.”
Keri price says
I got an Email stating my phone had been delivered but I have not received It.keri price
Free Government Cell Phones says
Contact your service provider ASAP, Keri.
Rick says
They do not email you to tell you it’s delivered. They email to tell you it that it shipped and they provide a tracking number. “Shipped” is obviously not the same as “delivered”. The tracking number will tell you if it was delivered to the destination. If it wasn’t, you can still see how close its getting to being delivered.
Brian Ward says
The external phone number voicemail on qlink
Free Government Cell Phones says
Not a clue what you’re asking, Brian. Want to try again?
Kelly Norlund says
I was wondering how I can block unwanted callers on my qlink phone. I have a Kyocera. Thanks
Free Government Cell Phones says
Do a google search for your phone’s make and model and the words “user manual.” When you find the right manual, it should be easy to find the answer to your question.
Steven C Johnson says
I was told by Qlink that there was very little coverage in my area so by that I understood that I may not have the best service everywhere i go. When i got my phone and tried to activate it it would not activate. I sent in an email to them and they replied with : “There is no service coverage in your area.” None at all. So now I’m stuck with this membership for a year and I cant use it. I’d like to know when Qlink is going to get coverage in my area. Are they saving up to buy a cell tower or what?
Free Government Cell Phones says
This really is a huge, unforgivable flaw in the free government cell phone program. Any service provider should be able to tell you if they have service at your address and it’s damn near a crime for these companies to collect money for providing service that is so inadequate.
Contact Q Link’s customer service team and ask to speak to a supervisor. Perhaps you’ll get a little satisfaction if you go up the chain of command.
Rick says
They DO tell you if there is coverage. When I applied March 2017, as part of the application process, you first enter your zip code. First thing it did was bring up a detailed map to confirm coverage before going any farther with application process.
Rich says
Where can I buy a Q Link card? I ran out of minutes but don’t know where to buy a refillable card
Free Government Cell Phones says
Here’s an article that tells you how and where to get more minutes:

Karen Hall says
I need a UMX V351 user manual. Help, please.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Google it. There are almost no printed user manuals anymore, Karen.
Donni J Kalbacher says
I don’t know how to use this phone, I had a stroke in 81/82 Can you TALK to me about how to use this?
Free Government Cell Phones says
You didn’t mention which phone you were given, Donni, but the easiest thing to do is to do a Google search for the make and model of your phone plus the words “user manual.” You will quickly find a manual that will answer all your questions.
Jan says
Give me your number or give to someone so they van talk to u Donnie. Can u make calls? what cant u do? Below you can ask too. Try calling qlink wireless. usually it is 611 for help
shade valentine says
Had this service for 4 years now trying to buy a upgrade phone from Walmart and switch my number over how do I do that?
Free Government Cell Phones says
Not all cell phones are compatible with all national cell networks, Shade. So the first thing you need to do is speak to Q Link’s customer service team to make sure the phone you want to buy is compatible with the Q Link network.
William says
Q Link has the ABSOLUTE WORST customer service I have ever encountered. I have been trying all afternoon to get in touch with someone to cancel my service because I am no longer eligible. The emails I receive are completely useless. Honestly. It’s just a generated email that does no good at all. I am so sick of this company.
Angelia Howlett says
I really need to change my phone number and I’ve called all the numbers and get no where I need to speak to a real person please and thank you so much
Free Government Cell Phones says
It’s often difficult to get hold a a real live service rep, Angelia. Go to the QLink website, click on “Help Center” and then click on “Contact Us.” You can send an email to customer service.
Billy Brough says
Thank you so much for letting me be a member I WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE THE 100 FREE MINUTES BY Referring my good friend TONY JENKINS. I KNOW HE IS ON FOOD STAMPS BUT I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT IF HE HAS AN E-MAIL OR NOT. I KNOW HE IS IN BAD NEED OF A PHONE. HIS ADDRESS IS TONY JENKINS 14 YORKSHIRE DR. ****************. AGAIN THANK U SO MUCH. YOURS TRULY BILLY BROUGH
Free Government Cell Phones says
That’s very kind of you, Billy. But you or your friend need to contact a Lifeline company directly. We’re an independent website. Here’s where you can find a list of all the free government cell phone companies in your state, along with their contact info. Good luck.
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/states
Paul Andrew says
While the phone and the service from Qlink is a helpful thing to people in need, the phone it’s self comes with a program (spyware) that sells your number to telemarketers. Regardless if you list your number with the Do Not Call Registry you will be called from telemarketers. You can not remove the program that does this, other than Rooting your phone from Qlink and in doing so you break the contract with Qlink. Personally I am at end with this problem and hope my message helps others.
Free Government Cell Phones says
We doubt that what you say is true, Paul.
Paul Andrew says
It is true why would I take the time to come here to warn others, other than to help seniors and others in need of Lifeline such as myself. The bloatware / Spyware is called “TouchPal”. And the fact the you doubt what is said here by me calls in to question who you represent, the Company or “US” the users. Not only does this so called app try to control how the phones are used by controlling the settings it’s somehow sends info when I use the phone as when I do calls follow from telemarketers. Being poor or old and needing a Lifeline phone doesn’t make “US” stupid. My next step is to contact someone in government that oversees the Lifeline program.
Free Government Cell Phones says
What size tin foil hat do you wear, Paul?
Paul Andrew says
Whatever, this site is total BS
Free Government Cell Phones says
You think there’s something so important in your life that the government uses a free cell phone to listen in on your conversations, yet you call this website “total BS.” One of us is not living in reality, Paul, and it ain’t us.
Teresa says
@free gov phone, with all the news showing that Paul is correct, not with just the free phones but with all cell phones, and other”smart” electronic devices, I think an apology is in order to Mr Paul.
Free Government Cell Phones says
You may be right, but we’ll hold off judgment until the news is clearer. The point remains, however, that we can see no reason for the government to want to listen in on the conversations of the nation’s poorest people.
Rebecca says
What kind of Company talks to their clients this way? You should be ashamed of yourself and Qlink should be ashamed to have a Customer Service agent representing them this way!
Free Government Cell Phones says
First, we stand by our answer. Second, this website is not affiliated with Q Link nor any other free government cell phone company.
Jane says
Paul,
You are absolutely correct in what you have said! What a nightmare cell phone to have. It is ironic I thought too, that every time I use the cell, I mysteriously get a telemarketer call! They are endless, sometimes up to 10x a day! Now I get calls from other area codes recently, guess I because I will decline every call that does not actually have my cell #. Then again, what do you want from the Government, especially when it is free, or is it?
Kerry says
Paul,
If you want, you can Google the Do Not Call Registry site and it does state that they sell your phone number to certain people. Perhaps, this is what you are actually referring to. Also, TouchPal is not spyware in any way. It is simply a keyboard with fun emoji’s that you can add to your messages. You may easily change your keyboard to the Google keyboard in settings, if you prefer not to use TouchPal. Google will help you to understand the facts about the things that you are thinking. Whenever you don’t understand something, anything, Google it.
Jessica Kreipl says
Someone stole my phone and is using it. I can’t afford to replace it right now but I would like it shut off. Of course I can’t get through to a representative. Seems the only way to stop them is to buy a new phone that I can’t afford. So until then, whoever is using my phone under my name for drug deals. Wonderful.
Free Government Cell Phones says
If you can get through by phone, Jessica, try getting through via email. Go to the Q Link website, click on “Help Center” and then click on “Contact Us.” You’ll be taken to an email for that you can fill out and send.
amber says
Hi my free phone just got shipped out today. Are these phones all smartphones cause I don’t want to end up with a small tracphone like I got a yr ago from safelink I can’t use that kind of phone that I need for my situation. Just worried
Free Government Cell Phones says
Obviously, we cannot guess what kind of phone Q Link sent you, but as of December 2, 2016 EVERY free government cell phone is supposed to be a smartphone.
Kerry says
I can guarantee that you will get a response by email. In fact, the response that I received was that they couldn’t answer my question by email and gave me a phone number to call so that a rep can help me.
Lesley Rice says
Qlink has disappeared l thought l would have a phone by now it’s been months this is sad I need a new phone I’m housebound have no way to get in touch with them someone please help me
Free Government Cell Phones says
Q Link is alive and well, Lesley. We provide contact info on this page. If you can’t get to a live service rep on the phone, try contacting them by email. Go to the company’s website, click on “Help Center” and then click on “Contact Us.”
Rebecca says
Leslie, please think twice before committing to Qlink. If I were you I’d run as fast as you can from having anything to do with this company! If I could do it all over again, I’d choose a different company. There is absolutely NO WAY to EVER get in contact with ANYONE! The phone numbers listed are all automated and have no option and no way to reach a live person. You just go round and round and round listening to prerecorded messages.
Free Gov’t Cell Phones will reply and say you can click on Help Center and then Contact Us but even when you do that an actual person does NOT return your message but once again it’s a prerecorded message and that’s IF you get a response back! It’s complete lunacy. I mean it’s probably great on their side since they probably have 1 person actually working for them!
It says you’re supposed to recertify every year but I’ve only done it 1year and every other time it’s been done for me which is ABSOLUTELY what I DO NOT WANT!!! I want off of Qlinks program but it seems almost IMPOSSIBLE!!!
Well I hope you heed this warning! I just wish I had someone that could’ve warned me before selling my soul to the devil.
Sincerely,
natesgrandma7640
Free Government Cell Phones says
Are you saying that you’ve been automatically re-certified without submitting any paperwork, Nates? If that’s the case, it’s completely illegal. You should report your case to the USAC, FCC, and your state public utility commission.
Michelle Hobbs says
Same with me.I haven’t used my Qlink phone since Feb.Of 2016.it was a lil flip phone and stopped working, just wouldn’t charge and when it did it had a black screen. They refused to replace it,said I’d have to pay, even tho it arrived this way.I E mail them often no response but still says my accounts active and the send stament to my email every month.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Anyone with problems like these should make formal complaints to the Federal Communications Commission, the USAC, the Better Business Bureau, and most important, your state’s public utility commission (they go by different names in different states).
Lulu says
Company sucks. Sending out the same phone now also took away the upgrade phone option so they don’t have to deal with people complaining I assume. You can’t get a hold of a person no matter what options you press. Worst company don’t give them money for a new phone.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Interesting, Lulu. We always like to double check claims left in our comments section, so we went to the Help Center on the Q link website and clicked on “Service/Plans/Upgrades” and were directed to a page that says,
“Page Not Found.” Hmmmmm.
Mac says
Works now.
Brittany Gardner says
My screen busted on my qlink phone,I went and bought an Alcatel 4G lte can I transfer my qlink service to the at&t phone
Free Government Cell Phones says
Not all cell phones are compatible with all cell phone networks, Brittany. The only way to get a definitive answer is for you to contact Q Link’s customer service or tech support team.
Phyllis White says
Why can’t I talk to a representative? I get so tired of listening to a recording! !!*!
Free Government Cell Phones says
You’ve highlighted one of the great frustrations of the Lifeline free government cell phone program, Phyllis. We can’t begin to guess how many people have complained to us about the same thing.
Kerry says
As has been stated before, email them!
katherinecabe says

Kris,
Free Government Cell Phones says
You need to contact your service provider’s customer service or tech support team, Kristen. There’s no way we can troubleshoot your cell phone.
Nik turner says
Because your using your data not WiFi. WiFi connects to your wireless router for your home internet or a business internet service your phone’s data only works on your phone.
Kerry says
It sounds like you need to go to settings and turn on the wifi, select your wifi and put in your password to connect.

Free Government Cell Phones says

Shelby says

King Luka says
Buy why are you mad at the person who created a website to help people find a Lifeline phone? freegovernmentcellphones isn’t connected to the phone companies and can’t help with your account. They merely takes all the information already available online or with a phone call to each company, and place it all in one easy to read site. Getting mad at the person who offered to help you for free when they can’t assist you with your personal account info is ridiculous.
Stop being so silly and contact the phone company directly about your account. And thank you to the people who operate this site for helping me out when I was too lazy to google all this info myself.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Thank you King Luka. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
