iWireless stands for Iowa Wireless. In our review of Lifeline Discount companies, we’ve only included two companies that restrict their business to one state. Iowa Wireless Service is one of them. We’ll explain why as soon as we tell you about the discount the company offers.
An iWireless representative explained the company’s Lifeline Discount plan to us this way: “The Lifeline program works with all of our plans, whether you chose to go on a monthly billed plan or our pay-in-advance. If you chose the monthly billed option, the credit is $9.25/mo. If you’re a pay-in-advance customer, you would get 8 days of unlimited talk time added every month.”
Now here’s what’s so different about iWireless. It is privately-owned by a group of 127 independent telephone companies that provide service to approximately 500,000 rural Iowans. These small, cooperative phone companies offer the iWireless Lifeline Discounts program in dozens of towns/regions across the state. Those companies include:
- Baldwin-Nashville Telephone Company (part of iWireless network)
- Barnes City Cooperative Telephone Company (part of iWireless network)
- Brooklyn Mutual Telecommunications Cooperative (part of iWireless network)
- CCM Wireless (part of iWireless network)
- Cedar County PCS (part of the iWireless network)

iWireless, a partnership between T-Mobile USA and Iowa Network Services (INS), is headquartered in lovely Urbandale, Iowa.
Yes, the Iowa telephone system is odd, fragmented and confusing. There are dozens of companies serving small numbers of rural residents across the state. Luckily, iWireless has stepped in to give those companies some semblance of coordinated service, including a Lifeline Discount program that is consistent from company to company across the state.
