If you don’t qualify for the Lifeline Assistance free government cell phone program, you need to know about a new offer from Republic Wireless.
In the interest of journalistic integrity, we should point out that Republic Wireless says this six month offer is free, but in reality it will cost you $5. That’s still a pretty incredible offer. Especially if you don’t qualify or a free government cell phone.
There are only three “catches” and they are so minor that we hesitated to even call them “catches.” First, this Republic plan will only work if you can bring an approved Android device (“approved” means one that runs Marshmallow or later) Second, you will be required to buy a Republic SIM card for $5. Third, you must activate your SIM card before June 7.
That’s it. That’s all it takes. And as if that weren’t enough good news, Republic will also waive all shipping charges.
In other words, $5 is all it will cost for six months of cell service.
You’ll get unlimited talk and text service PLUS 2GB of 4G LTE data ever month for half a year. Republic would normally charge $30 per month for that plan. (Of course, Republic is hoping that you’ll upgrade to its $90-per-month 10 gigabyte talk-and-text plan, but there’s no need to do that if you can get by with the lower limits.)
Republic’s low rates must drive it’s competition crazy. In December, it began offering unlimited wi-fi calling and texting for just $15 per month. By way of comparison, AT&T’s most comparable plan starts at a relatively-expensive $45 a month.
Republic’s low-cost plans have been making a lot of waves in the cell phone business in the last couple years.
“The past five years have been an incredible ride as we’ve worked hard to save our customers tens of millions of dollars off their cell phone bills,” Republic CEO Chris Chaung said. “However, the best days are still ahead of us. With this extraordinarily talented [staff] and all the benefits this spin-off provides, we will accelerate our mission to provide remarkably simple and affordable ways for people to stay in touch.”
The waves are only going to get bigger if Republic continues offering incredible low-cost introductory plans like this.
Keep up the good work, Republic.

You are late in presenting this offer to us, the date you posted the article is too late,it seems the sims must have been purchased as follows;
Each SIM card purchased between May 16, 2017 at 12:01 a.m. ET – May 22, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. ET (the “Offer Period”) on http://www.republicwireless.com entitles the purchaser (herein referred to as either the “customer” or “you”) to (i) up to six (6) consecutive months of (ii) up to Republic Wireless’s Talk and Text plus 2GB of cellular data service plan free of charge (taxes and telecom charges not included) subject to the following conditions (the “Offer”).
and the terms say you must pay for the first month of service and the free 6 months begin at the second month from signup as they state below;
The free service (taxes and telecom fees not included) will begin at the start of your second month with Republic Wireless. Put another way, you will need to pay for the first month of service and then beginning with your second month, you will receive free service (taxes and telecom fees not included) for the next six (6) consecutive months. If the Republic Wireless service is terminated before the expiration of the consecutive six (6) month period (an “Early Offer Termination”), any and all remaining months of service credits expire.

Is this a different deal than this one? https://slickdeals.net/f/10155796-republic-wireless-bring-your-own-android-phone-program-will-receive-six-months-of-free-service-up-to-2gb-cellular-4g-lte?
If it’s the same deal, there are a few more gotchas:
1) you have to have or buy a phone compatible with the plan on their short list, most of which cost $100+
2) you have to pay the first month, equal to $30 for unlimited, plus the $5 SIM card
3) you have to have bought a SIM from them between 5/15 – 5/22. Supposedly these are the only ones that work with this promo plan. You can try to buy one now and activate before 6/7, but you’d be taking a risk.
If it’s a different deal, I would love to know, as I would love to get in on it!

Awwwww, you are quite the sweet talker, E.

Pretty serious catch, that first one – because if you don’t *own* an Android (I own an old iPhone 4s, for example), you have to go *buy* one, which makes this offer moot…
