NOTE: COMPANY APPEARS TO BE OUT OF BUSINESS
Here’s some good news for low income residents in the states of Maryland and West Virginia: LinkUp Telecom is offering free government cell phones in both states. But they do it with a twist we haven’t seen from any other company.
Here’s how they spell it out on the company website: “Receive either a FREE Mobile Handset with Free monthly minutes or 1 Month of FREE Home Phone Service with Unlimited Local & Long Distance Service!”
Since the name of this website is FreeGovernmentCellPhones.net, we won’t delve into the home phone service at this point. Let’s just go straight to more detail on LinkUp’s free government cell phone program:
Here’s how LinkUp describes it’s free wireless cell phone service: “Everyone receives a free cell phone with 100 FREE minutes. Each month we’ll add another 100 free minutes to your phone with absolutely no charge to you. Want more than 100 minutes each month? It’s easy. Simply refer an eligible friend or family member to Link Up Telecom and we’ll give you another 100 minutes free for everyone who signs up. Just make sure they let us know you referred them.”
In our never-ending effort to give you the straight facts about the free government cell phone program, we must admit that 100 free minutes per month isn’t the kind of offer that’s going to set the world on fire. (It won’t even set Maryland and West Virginia on fire.) But free is free and if you can’t find another company in those two states that will give you more minutes, you should definitely consider LinkUp.
LinkUp knows that ordinary cell phone plans are beyond the reach of many low income Americans. Here’s how the company describes its philosophy on its website:
“The Lifeline Assistance program was created to assist with such costs. This program provides discounts on basic monthly service and intial installation or activation fees for … cellular service, to income-eligible consumers.”
