H. Doug Everett wants Lifeline Assistance customers to pay $5 per month. He says it will deter fraud, but we say it will cause the death of a program that has already helped millions of Americans land jobs and get off public assistance.
According to Everett’s cockamamie scheme, free government cell phone companies that decline to collect the fee would be required to offer a minimum 500 minutes of calling time per month instead of the standard 250 minutes per month. That would, of course, increase the cost to the phone companies and make it unaffordable for them to compete in the free government cell phone program.
“This to me is a luxury item, it’s not a necessity,” Everett insisted. “They have family, most of them. They have the church. I believe they can put a little skin in the game.”
Everett said extensive efforts by the federal government to tighten eligibility rules are simply inadequate.
“A lot of people are giving fictitious names and fictitious addresses, and no one was checking it,” he huffed.
We hate to be harsh, but based on the attached photo of Commissioner Everett, he has enough skin to put a little skin into the game for a considerable number of Georgia’s needy citizens.
Please, Commissioner Everett, due your duty as a public servant and do a little more research.
You’ll quickly learn that the vast majority of LifeLine Assistance customers are well-meaning American citizens who are temporarily down on their luck. There’s nothing they want more than to land jobs and begin contributing to society again. Their free government cell phones will help them apply for jobs and stay in touch with potential employers.
To paraphrase another old saying, “Give a man a fish and he eats today, give him a free government cell phone and he’ll soon be a productive, tax paying citizen.”

three years and only one of them worked right!. the phone i hav now ive had it for two months
and its only worked for about five days. i don’t have any money but if i did i wouldn’t pay a dime
for it!!!. If he wants to make or save money then let them bring back those customer support
jobs from overseas. i get a headache trying to understand what theyre talking. when i try to
explain whats wrong with these stupid phones.

I did report Qlinkwireless to USAC.com. Hopefully they will investigate this Company located in Dania, Florida. They are scamming the free government cell phone program and I still worry what they are doing with all my private documentation I sent to them. They are still advertising all over the internet.

The Landline Lifeline program is at a reduced rate. How is this any different? A reduced rate is very beneficial, and would allow more companies to offer this opportunity. My issue is with the Connect 2 Compete program for reduced rate internet service: they expect someone barely scraping by on minimum wage, unable to afford the internet, to shell out $50 for modem???? Now that’s ridiculous!
