SouthernLINC Wireless Lifeline Discount Cell Phones

SouthernLINC Wireless is a wireless communications company that offers Lifeline plans to residents of Alabama and Georgia. For some inexplicable reason, it doesn’t offer Lifeline to its customers in southeastern Mississippi and the Florida panhandle.

SouthernLINC provides its Lifeline customers with a $9.25 discount on their phone bills every month. They call their Lifeline program “the Lifeline Call Manager” and it offers benefits that many other Lifeline companies don’t.

LifeLine Call Manager Benefits

To begin with, the Lifeline Call Manager limits you to 300 Anytime Cellular Minutes every month. That may seem overly restrictive, but they sweeten the program by giving you Unlimited Push To Talk 2-way radio minutes anytime across the entire SouthernLINC Wireless Regional Service Area, even after you’ve blown through all your Anytime Cellular Minutes.

You also get free directory assistance, free call forwarding, free caller ID, free call waiting, and free 3-way calling.

What does it cost? SouthernLINC’s standard monthly access fee is $21.74. Subtract the monthly $9.25 discount and you’ll pay just $12.49 per month. Keep in mind that SouthernLINC also charges a one-time activation fee of $17.50. Pretty reasonable, all in all.

Qualification Requirements

In both Georgia and Alabama, you may qualify for Lifeline Discounts if your household income is at or below 135% of federal poverty guidelines.

You can also qualify in both states if you participate in a federal assistance program such as Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Federal Public Housing Assistance or Section 8, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

In Alabama, you can also qualify if you receive benefits from Bureau of Indian Affairs Programs (General Assistance Food Distribution Program, Tribal TANF, Head Start, NSLP)

In Georgia you can also qualify if you participate in your local electric or gas company’s Senior Citizen Low Income Discount Program.
