U.S. Connect is a Texas-based company that offers a discount on free government cell phones available in Arkansas, Maryland and West Virginia. Previously, it was providing a number of free minutes and texts, but it has removed those plans and now only offers a $9.25 Lifeline discount on their 250 minute and 250 text plan.
That is not a good plan by any measure, and we suggest you check out all the companies in your state (see our States page) for a better, and free, deal.
The following is no longer valid:
All three plans (one free, two discounted) work the same way. U.S. Connect’s free plan costs $9.25 per month, so when the company subtracts the $9.25 government subsidy, you pay nothing. (Hence, the name “free government cell phone”.)
U.S. Connect’s free plan gives you 250 minutes/texts per month. Its other plans give you a lot more minutes and and a lot more texts for a small additional payment. Here’s a quick review of what you get from all three plans:
The “Value Plan” gives you 250 minutes/texts per month for free. The “Great Value Plan” gives you 500 minutes/texts per month for just $10.25 per month (after the discount is applied). The “Supreme Value Plan” gives you 1000 minutes/texts per month for just $30.00 (after the discount is applied).
All three plans give you a free cell phone, unlimited 911, caller ID, call waiting, voicemail, and live customer service agents.
But what if you need more minutes or texts than your plan provides? No problem because U.S. Connect has several affordable ways to add extra minutes to your account:
You can purchase an additional 100 Minutes/Texts for just $5.00. An extra 200 Minutes/Texts will set you back a mere $10.00. Supplementing your free minutes with an additional 400 Minutes/Texts will cost just $20.00. Boosting your monthly allotment by 600 Minutes/Texts costs just $30.00. And finally, you can purchase a bountiful 1000 Minutes/Texts for just $50.00.
