Has FreedomPop introduced a game changer in the free government cell phone industry?
As PCmag.com said, “you don’t get a ton of talk time or data. FreedomPop will give you 500MB of 4G data, unlimited texting, and 200 voice minutes each month. In addition to this, all calls between FreedomPop members will be free.”
An Incredible Offer
This incredible offer will undoubtedly cause some sleepless nights for executives at all the companies competing in the Lifeline Assistance program because it completely bypasses that business model.
According to FreedomPop, their innovative program allows customers to earn additional free data by participating in surveys, downloading programs, and even by referring friends.
If you need more than the 250 free minutes offered in free government cell phone programs, FreedomPop allows its customers to purchase unlimited voice calls a paltry $9.99 per month. And if you need additional data usage, you can also buy a contract-free monthly plan.
We can already hear the questions forming in your head. “Is this some kind of scam? How can FreedomPop pull this off when no one else is able to?”
How Do They Do It?
Without getting into technical details, let’s just say they use a completely different technology called VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol), that routes calls over the internet instead of routing them over traditional wires and towers.
Stephen Stokols, FreedomPop’s CEO and co-founder, said, “The quality of over-the-top VoIP services is now at a stage where we can deliver the major mobile services completely free to consumers.”
Our first question was, what kind of smart phones will be offered? If you read the reader comments here at FreeGovernmentCellPhones.net, you know that current participants in the program have registered many complaints about the quality of their phones.
Without being specific, FreedomPop says they’ll offer “popular models consumers are familiar with.” We anticipate that iPhones and a broad selection of Android phones will be part of the program.
FreedomPop says it will launch the service before the calendar turns to fall. But you don’t have to wait until the leaves start falling off the trees to sign up. Visit FreedomPop.com/phone for more details.
Way to go, FreedomPop. This is the kind of service and the kind of cell phones that low income Americans have been waiting for.
Go to: FreedomPop.

I happened to stumble upon this site, amid my search in regards to shopping around, in search of a better cell phone family plan and possibly, to determine which carriers, if any offer the latest handsets, for new customers, etc. etc. However, I am a bit curious as to, the motivation, in the context, in which this “Independent, information website” pertaining to the interests, of those, whom seek rather basic details, of government funded devices and, or cellular network service, for qualifying applicants. My first impression of this site was in par to the informative substantiated relevance, in which it consists of. Though as I continued reading, it looped into a sort of condescending, or rather sort of a coy fashion. As though this were done by one, whom lacks common moral, of those of lesser means, or fall short of, one who may have the ability to afford certain amenities, as that, of the next. We live in a very unbalanced society, where many Americans may have the privilege to lavish themselves with extraordinary things, as well with things which, might seem commonly, General and equally expected, among all people to utilize, as we expect to have electricity, gas and water. The viewpoint, I gathered as per, the few paragraphs i happens to read, brought to light, a person whom feels the need to express your judgement, on others whom you see as freeloading, or happy to have lesser means, so they can live on easy street while tax payers are living an even better life in their well to do middle or upper class entitlements. For the better part of it, you need to take a step back for a minute and remember, we are all created equal, however the creativity of all that, so many take for granted, has not been equally generated. One may work just as hard as the next, but where you evolve and produce life, can determine ones destiny and fortune. I’ve the means, that one may consider great wealth. However, I see the world, very greedy, ungrateful, judge-mental and lack empathy and carry on in life, blindly and foolish. Without a single conscience of the reasons behind the life of ones journey. What might have brought them to where they are today, or what might of taken place, they may have set them back to the starting line. Why are they working two jobs trying to finish school, and put a hot plate on the table to feed their family, while saddened at the fact that her husband just past away in a car accident, while driving home, from work, by a drunk driver that ran a red light. So many instances that people endure. Which may bring them to a rather dimmer place, which wasn’t part of the plan. But feeding and proving shelter for your kids now, with all but one adult in the family portrait, while maintaining the path that was once viewed quite easily, and taking on a second job to finance and sustain life as it is, may bring one to result in government assistance, or Medicaid or food supplements, or a free phone service if it means eliminating a bill, each moth in order to keep a child in baseball or ballet and so forth. And one might not be in a place where everything is how they expected it to be. But to assume that people are happy when they can qualify for free government proceeds, and that they’re not also contributing to the exact tax dollars that are actually accumulated, for the very same purpose, in which they’ve the opportunity to utilize, in the event of such unforeseen circumstances. This is the very reason why everyone in America should be grateful, that we live in a society where one has such options, and one must not worry if tragedy strikes, much less a recession embarks on the economy. These things are the sole purpose in which our government has in place, for the people. We pay in and when needed we have the ability to apply for such programs to regroup and stabilize the home front. Keep the family from going hungry, and healthy in the midst of uncertainty. Layoffs, illnesses, or unexpected injury, divorce, death, and much more. Everyone should really stop and think about the big picture, for passing judgement on another. Everybody wants the same things, and many work hard but are, at times unable to advance as others might not work as hard and succeed to higher levels. Maybe its timing, or maybe it’s luck, or who you know. Gender race, relationship, favoritism; who knows, but success and wealth is not equally generated in this wold and nobody is better than any body else. Only God can judge, and of course, the justices, and maybe a game show host. But we aren’t given that right, we embellish it. Thank you for reading. #EachOneTeachOne
Free Government Cell Phones says
Whole lot o’ words, T, but we don’t have the slightest clue what your point was, T. Somewhere in the middle of your novel you accused us of being condescending and after several long linguistic detours you came around to saying game show hosts are allowed to judge alongside God. You could use a good editor. Or even a fair to middlin’ editor. Oh, what the hell. Even a bad editor could improve your diarrhea of the mouth writing style. Uh-oh. There I go being condescending again.
T. Lara says
If your intention is to promote free government phones, or cellular plans, that’s all fine and dandy. However, what point are you implying by degrading any particular state, or the people whom reside their? California for instance. This article suggests that Californians are needy. As quoted from this article and then went on to criticize the states handling in respects to Government funding programs.
*** article Clip / quote cont. ***
And because the state of California offers Lifeline Assistance companies an additional subsidy above and beyond the national subsidy offered in other states, needy Californians are far more likely to get smartphones and data plans than customers in other states.
This is great news for the not-so-Golden State with their unemployment levels higher than national average, and run by one of the most dysfunctional governments in the country.

If that doesn’t sound a bit rude and, or unnecessarily stated, then maybe it’s true, that some people just don’t realize when they’re a bit, how should I put this… Fuk’eenG Ignorant to the facts and maybe you can use a large dose of Imodium… So that you don’t accidentally squirt any running shit out of your mouth while your trying to carry on about the needy people and their screwed up state.they over populate, and so happy to be able to get a free smartphone. Yatti Yatta ~ Anyway, Clearly you’ll probably go on to defend your wrongs and come at me with another rude comment. But it’s ok. I’m only pointing this out because I thought it was a bit unnecessary and unprofessional, as were your comments. But it’s your gig, I’ll let you tell it. And my profound language was only to express my reaction, in response to your comments. But no hard feelings. Take care. & Be a little more professional next time. Thanks for understanding 🧐

I hope you have a great night and please don’t stop doing what you are doing, because if you are doing all this for what I am hoping you are, it’s easy for someone to get lost when who they have been working on to beat , when all is said and done turn out to be nothing but wimps, trying to make a buck, they start searching for a bigger challenge and get lost. Hi,
First I have to say I have read a little of the questions asked and your answers. Well this is what I am to say, and if wrong please correct me, trust me when I say I make a big enough fool of myself daily without adding one more to the list. Anyway I like the way you answer you are direct without the bs. I just hope you ate nice to me.
Okay here goes……………..
Hi my name is LisaAnn, and I have been trying to find a government program for me. Right now I have only a Po Box I don’t have a address , I am living on the streets. I am trying to do something about that but everything takes time. Anyway I have a phone app. set for April 8 to see if I am able to be reinstated on my ssi . I was taken off cause I had gotten married and he made to much money. Well now we have been married for sometime, not every story ends lhappily, we are now getting a divorce and I am back where I was when I had met him and worse. I am back living the streets and I had when I first met him fought long and hard to get off of them,j had succeed, now look at me back again. I am sorry I don’t want pitty or any I am sorry, for I’ll get myself off again it’s just, never mind sorry for laying this on you not your problem. Anyway please keep your fingers crossed for me on April 8. Anyway I really need a phone and the internet the one I have now is going to be off very soon, I can’t blame him, he says he’s not going to keep paying the bill and it’s in his name It’s the only way I have to talk to my son. And it helps me alittle, helps me feel alittle bit safer knowing I can call a friend or 911 if need be. Anyway I have no address I tried using a friends address but every place says it’s not a real address and it’s real trust me on that. And they refuse to take a Po Box Number. My Po Box is temporary in Robert Lee Texas, but I am in the prosess of moving to Colorado City Texas which is only about 40 minutes from here, hopefully I’ll be able to get on my feet. Big Springs/ Sweet Water are not far from there. Anyway I checked your service runs there, I am not so sure if it runs here in Robert Lee, but no matter I should be out of here by the end of this week. But I will be keeping my Po Box here, just tell I can get things set up in Colorado City.
My question can you help me?
I will understand if you say no,, if you can’t. So don’t worry, you can’t help everyone, but I hope you can me. Hopefully I’ll hearing back from you good or bad. So until then I’ll leave you with this ..

Aaron Kirsch says
Do I need to pay for this cell phone? Do I get a separate bill for useing this phone?
Free Government Cell Phones says
FreedomPop charges very reasonable prices for its cell phones, but the service is free. It’s possible to use your own phone (referred to as BYOP, Bring Your Own Phone, or BYOD, Bring Your Own Device), but you’ll need to confirm that the phone you want to use is compatible with the FreedomPop network.

with voip, will you only be able to make calls via internet / wifi connection?
Free Government Cell Phones says
Yes. Or, of course, with a cable connection rather than wifi.

is there a company that offers a free iphone with the free lifeline program
Free Government Cell Phones says
First thing you need to do, Brett, is to read this article on which of the leading companies offer smartphones:
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/which-lifeline-cell-phone-companies-offer-smartphones
Several companies offer iPhones, but the newest one we’ve seen listed is an iPhone 4S. Not the latest model, but it will probably do the job you need done.
Second step for you is to check out all the Lifeline service providers in your state. You can find that list here:

I neen trying sign up for free phone i get ssi foodstamps medicaid live in ny. still after search i have not found company after taking my information down a phone or service. i need texts calling and 4g due to no internet options in my rural area. i have 3 dependent kids and i have gentlemen who stays in room in my home. i charge 0.00 to stay here and pays 0.00 help us out. He been searching get his free phone cause he gets ssi too but if he gets i can’t and pretty good he can get free ride all the way around when he pays 340.00 out month to verizon to have it all and he thinks that i give him ride to a free phone and only 1 per household deal. i pay gas electric taxs cable all bills, he really gets free ride. i go without anything. how can i get before him?
Free Government Cell Phones says
You have a couple problems, Terry. First (and this is unrelated to the free government cell phone question), why is he allowed to stay at your home if he’s paying no rent?
Second, you are correct that rural locations often have trouble finding a free government cell phone company that serves their area. Even paying customers often have trouble in rural areas.
Third, why the heck is he paying $340 per month to Verizon. That’s a huge, huge phone bill. Crazy, in fact.
Fourth, it’s not quite accurate that you cannot get a phone if he gets one. Here’s an article that talks about multi-family homes getting additional phones. Speak to a service provider and ask if you qualify:
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/free-phones-for-the-homeless
Finally, kick the bum out if he refuses to help with expenses.

“”Game changer? FreedomPop introduces free smart phones, free voice calls, free texting and free data””
Well it’s been a lit over 3 years now, and I’m wondering why FP hasn’t joined the ranks of Lifeline providers – a guaranteed payment from Gov.
isn’t good enough? The 9.99 for 250 minutes is along the same lines as the other Lifeline providers, case being here it come out of one’s own pocket.
Maybe as FP is outside the Gov.’s. Lifeline program can be an advantage. If someone was to get on a Lifeline providers program that also offered it’s network service thru Sprint towers. Same someone was to get the FP free offer, FreedomPop you get 500MB of 4G data, unlimited texting, and 200 voice minutes each month.
Then was to switch out SIM cards in your Lifeline handset from your Lifeline provider to that of FP SIM when you exhaust your Lifeline providers allowance before the months end. Would this be a possibly?
I’m not techy and you may not be willing to offer any insight of details,
factors one would have to overcome in doing so.
If in Lifeline providers handset a FP SIM would even work, beings FP method of VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). As I think this would have a DATA SIM only setting offered and not be in compliance to a Lifeline providers handset without some understanding how to permit.
I also see that both programs are offered FREE (one-if requirement is met), so maybe other readers here will experiment and CHIM IN to help us understand.
ADDITIONAL – possibly if it was to work, is to upgrade handset model with that of the lowest best priced venders offering.
What benefits in using Lifeline and a service as Google Talk, RingTo, GrooVe IP.
I know I put a lot on your plate for consideration and I hope the Community here will voice in additionally as well.
Thanks so very much FGCP,
Steve 🙂

Kia nguyen says
Why arent the children offered free phones this could be beneficial to their safety.
Free Government Cell Phones says
We can think of several reasons, Kia, but the primary one is probably that children are unable to sign contracts. In addition to that, only one free government cell phone is allowed per household, and the parents probably need it more than the children.
That being said, it’s undoubtedly true that many of the phones are being used by children whose parents signed up for them.
