North American Local Free Cell Phones in Alabama

<< All Free Cell Phone Providers

NOTICE: This company no longer offers free cell phone plans. They only offer discounted plans (and not very good deals) to Native Americans only.

North American Local is a Lifeline Assistance company that does business in just one state — Alabama. They were founded primary to serve Alabama’s Native American residents, but they do have a free government cell phone plan that’s available to all residents of the state — Native American or not.

North American Local offers local and long distance home phone service, cellular service, and high speed internet service. And, of course, it also offers a free government cell phone program that requires no contracts and no credit checks.

Here are the basics of North American Local’s Lifeline Assistance program:

The Free 250 Plan – you get get a free cell phone with 250 free minutes every month (IMPORTANT NOTE: This plan is available for regular customers only)

The 500 Plan – Offers 500 minutes per month, but is available for tribal customers only.

The Unlimited Plan – Offers unlimited calling and texting, but is available for tribal customers only.

North American also offers a bundle program that’s unusual in the Lifeline Assistance program. Specifically, you can bundle your Lifeline-discounted cell phone service with your home phone service to save even more money. And that’s not all. North American Local also allows you to bundle your free government cell phone service, home phone service and internet service to save even more.

According to North American Local’s FCC application, “North American Local is committed to expanding Lifeline services to the vastly underserved Tribal communities in Alabama. The Company has an application pending with the Alabama Public Service Commission to expand its service area to include tribal lands. According to a 2010 Census Brief, more than 57,000 residents claim tribal heritage in Alabama. The latest statistics released by the Commission show that Alabama had only 27 Lifeline subscribers living on tribal lands in 2011 and there are few competitive options.”

Go for it, North American, but don’t forget all the non-Native Americans who need your help.

You are incorrect about North American we do offer “lifeline” phones!!
We distribute touchscreen smart phones with 3.5″ screens.
Not a mail in service but phones on the spot for approved applicants.
    The plan is as follows:
    -500 min talk
    -UNLIMITED TEXT
    -500 mb of data
Very affordable Top Up plans as well.

Please update your website to reflect the facts!!!!!

    Respectfully,

    Jason Kinzer

We have scoured the North American Local website and do not find the plan you outline, Jason. If you can direct us to that page, we’ll be happy to update our article. Otherwise, we’ll update our page when North American updates its page. Sound fair?

Hi, Charlie. Here’s a link to an article that tells you the lost phone policy of all the major providers. If you want the same number you must remember to tell the service provider that you want to “port over your number.” Good luck.
