NewPhone Wireless Louisiana is available to residents of Louisiana only. And that’s too bad for the residents of the other 49 states, because NewPhone offers something most other free government cell phone companies don’t offer. More about that after we review the company’s basic Lifeline Assistance service.
1,000 Free Minutes, Unlimited Free Texts and 1GB Data Every Month – includes local and long distance calling, texting, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, 3-way calling and basic voicemail.
But as we said a few paragraphs above, NewPhone Wireless offers a third option for folks who don’t qualify for a free government cell phone.
The “I Don’t Qualify for Lifeline” Plan – Get a free cell phone plus 500 free minutes and 1,000 texts every month for just $9.25 per month. You’ll get all the calling features that come with the Lifeline — local and long distance calling, texting, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, 3-way calling and basic voicemail.
This is an option we wish every free government cell phone company offered, because there are millions of low-income Americans who desperately need Lifeline Assistance, but fall just short of qualifying.
No matter which plan you choose, NewPhone makes it inexpensive to purchase additional minutes:
|Extra Minute Package||Cost|
|Auto Pay 210 minutes*||$5.00|
When you enroll in the NewPhone Wireless Auto Pay program, you get an extra 210 minutes per month for just $5.00 per month plus tax, which brings the total monthly cost to $5.15. If you use a debit/credit card there is a $2.00 processing fee each month. We’re not sure how you’d do an auto pay program without a debit or check card, so let’s just cut to the bottom line and say the actual cost is $7.15 per month for an additional 210 minutes. That’s still what we call a very good deal.
As an added enticement to enroll in NewPhone’s Auto Pay plan, enrollment automatically enters you into the company’s monthly Sweepstakes. Each month NewPhone selects five lucky winners and awards $100 prizes to five lucky customers.
NewPhone Wireless says you can find their free government cell phones at various locations, housing complexes, corner stores, assisted living centers, churches, to name just a few. Of course, you can also apply online and if you’re approved NewPhone will ship your phone to you.
Is NewPhone available in your area? The company offers service statewide in the Sprint coverage area in Louisiana. There are no roaming charges, but NewPhone makes it clear that international long distance is not available.
