Your LifeLine Assistance/Affordable Connectivity Program free government cell phone may allow roaming. Or it may not.
Roaming is a service that allows you to use your cell phone while you are in another country or outside of your service provider’s coverage area. Roaming can be convenient for those who travel frequently, but it can also be expensive, because it’s usually accompanied by steep additional charges.
Some Lifeline providers offer roaming as part of their service, while others don’t. You need to check with your specific service provider to find out whether roaming is included in your Lifeline plan.
If you’re interested in using your phone while roaming, it’s a good idea to carefully consider your options before enrolling in a Lifeline plan. Compare different plans and service providers to find the one that best fits your needs. Remember that it’s very important to carefully read the terms and conditions of your plan before you travel.
Because as we said earlier, roaming can be expensive. Especially if you aren’t expecting any extra charges.

Darryl Cramer says
Just received my Free phone. My main question is ,about WiFi, as I am older (75) and do not understand about this. Will my phone pick up wi fi, and that takes me to internet? A little confusing for me right now, I am trying to figure out on my own. Thank you kindly
Free Government Cell Phones says
There’s not room here (nor time) to fully answer all your questions, Darryl. But you can try calling your service provider’s tech support team to get full answers. Theoretically, the short answer should be yes, you will be able to get WiFi. Of course, that is based on the assumption that the free cell phone you were given is a smart phone with WiFi capability.
We would imagine that any phone store would be happy to help answer your question. But make sure you go in at a time of day when they aren’t busy.
Darryl Cramer says
Yes, my phone I got is Android smart phone..just afraid there may be hidden costs.thank you for quick reply.
Free Government Cell Phones says
There should be no hidden costs, Darryl. Good luck.

Can I use my phone when traveling to Puerto Rico?
Free Government Cell Phones says
Depends on which company you’re with and which national network that company uses. If you’re with a service provider that does offers the free government cell phone program in Puerto Rico you can probably use it there. But you should make absolutely sure before you travel. Contact the customer service team at your service provider either by phone or online to confirm.

I think my safe link phone is actually going to be a death link phone cause where I use the phone the most ( at home ), I have no signal. Have to go outside. If I’m hurt or dying in the house and try to call 911 I will not get thru and possibly die. It will be safe links fault in my eyes. You may not be a cell phone company but you should come up with a different name for them because safe link they are NOT

I recently got my lifeline phone and it worked fine untill the first when my minutes renewed now it says I’m roaming.. What can I do to fix this?
Jessica says
I have a safe link phone, and I moved recently. My phone is roaming and it will not make phone calls or text at all. So I guess the answer is you can’t roam with free government phones. I have been here for almost 2 weeks and still can not make calls/text.
Donna Smallwood says
I have the same problem. Did you ever get to figure it out? Plz help..
Larry Fullington says
I live in an area with bad reception, so my son paid for a booster from AT&T so that we could use our phones. Will I be able to use a SafeLink phone from home ?
Wolfie says
Only Verizon works where I live. Does your service cover the same as Verizon?
