No, we cannot tell you when you will get your phone because this website is NOT affiliated with Safelink nor any other free government cell phone company. Safelink’s website has a “Check Your Status” function, too.

And why was I rejected this last time, when nothing’s changed since the last few times when I was approved?? Please help me, thanks!!
There’s no way for us — an independent informational website — to know why you were rejected, Janice. We’d suggest that you contact customer service once again by calling 6-1-1 on your free government cell phone, and ask to speak to a customer service supervisor.

I have Qlink and want to go to safelink for the better network and Qlink told me that’s not allowed. If you cancel you can’t go anywhere for a year. I’ve been with Qlink for years. You have an article that said to call new provider and they will transfer my lifeline to them without any inturruption in service. I called safelink and they said they will not. They said I have to cancel Qlink first then sign up and apply with safelink. But Qlink says that’s not allowed by the government for at least a year. What’s the real story?

Same here. I spent over 2 hours on the phone switching it on and off like they kept telling me to do and transferring me to different draprtments. I had to give up and call back the next day. Then I was told I have to reapply. Why did they send me a phone, if I wasn’t approved yet? Very strange and annoying.

After being a Safelink customer for 2+ years. They terminated my mother’s contact with no notice. When I called and spoke to the overseas call center, the agent stated that my mother failed to recertify. I told the agent she never received the annual recertification letter, the agent said ” we no longer send out letters, you need to refile using the phone or on their website. After providing the agent with all the requested data to recertify my mother’s contract, the agent said: “we will mail you the confirmation form in the mail”. After three weeks and no form, I called to ask for the status, I was informed that my mother’s recertification was denied as the COMPUTER shows that she has another carrier. I informed the agent that she does not have any other phone carrier, the agent said “That’s what appears on the computer”
After several unsuccessful attempts to extract the name of this so-call carrier, the agent said “it doesn’t say on the computer” I called my local assemblyman office to see if they were aware of any issues with the program, and I was informed that Safelink is terminating contracts without any notice for subscribers that don’t have Medicaid.
Has anyone gone thru this?

It’s probably no consolation, Ralph, but thousands of our readers have suffered the same fate. There’s an easy way to find out who (or if) your mom is enrolled with. Go to USAC.org and search for the services they offer. One of those services is looking up service providers in cases like yours.

I was with Safelink for 5 years and left a year and half ago when my flip phone started acting up. They sent me a replacement that was having the same issue , then a second one and after hours and days on the phone trying to resolve this issue i ended up forced to go with another lifeline company who at the time had a great deal by giving us an android phone that safelink didnt offer. A year with the company i went with that had great customer experience but poor 3gnetwork i decided to return to safelink on January 3rd 2018. What a journey. 2 pages of notes, over 20 supervisors , and probably 40+ reps.. hours and days to get my enrollment id attached again that they never deleted. Now ive been on the phone 40 minutes on 2nd escalation on why the enrollment id does not still attach. ive done all you , safelink has asked me to do. 4 ticket numbers last one being 117787337… ticket number 11765767, ticket number 1177787784 and many , many confirmation call numbers. poor rep who just answered. hopefully she can figure it out … why my enrollment is not attaching , now i find its because of my recertification… certification unsuccessful. a new one .. yet on the account on their end im enrolled and still pending.. so this poor rep .. i hope will finally help me. Safelink is the best lifeline service as far as service and network but customer service is a whole different story and this service is fine until you have an issue then good luck with getting it resolved on 1-10 phone calls if you are lucky!! Im giving up after this!! if not finally resolved. my last call confirmation after waiting 30 minutes for a second level rep and having to explain all for the 100th time oh and ive been calling from my computer otherwise guess what .. my minutes would have been used up trying to resolve all this and since my enrollment id still can not get attached i cant get the monthly plan either. go figure. I have two pages of notes front and back.. anyone like them?? im not sure at this point if i send corporate a detailed assesment if they will even figure it out since over 40 reps and 20 supervisors have not been able to?? Is is cause i left and now this is the punishment..lol.. no closure at this point except for a poor customer service, inconsistent…now im being told after all this i have to disenroll and enroll again. Well if i disenrolled over a year and a half ago and tied to re enroll on january 3, 2018 and the system did not let me online or with many reps… why am i having to disenroll again?? now im told its because of regulations. ok shes trying to do this for me today… i hope somewone here takes notice so i dont have to spend more time in an assessment to their corporate office!!! her manager that there are options for me to disenroll and enroll but she doesnt have access it i have to wait till they ..so is they.. oh the administration office cancels my account which there is no explanation why over a year an a half ago it wasnt when i formally left safelink my account wasnt cancelled. i fell in a loop hole according to this rep and her manager no resolution i just have to wait for administration.. end of call. how long, who knows?? wonderful rep but her hands are tied due to Safelink’s administration processes…. Confirmation call # today # 1587872136 not the reps fault.. its the administrative dept of safelin. awful .. let me take it to prayer.. its either this or get a lawyer!! i lost very important calls last month due to disconnections also thru this process and not being able to get your plan! Safelink.. another lifeline company gets the same services you have i guarantee you if you do not change your customer service administration you will loose in the long run! my advice to you!!

I have had my safelink phone for years, I am on SSDI. When I recently tried to recertify it came up with me not being eleligable. After several calls to safelink I finally got someone who I thought knew what they were doing. I heard them seem to talk to someone about my problem, then heard keys clicking, then they told me I was all set. Now looking on my phone today I find an end of service date of 1-31-18. I did all this other stuff months ago and have not received any notices about losing my phone. WHY would SSI be elegible and NOT SSDI?? Anyone know what gives????

I have been trying over 3 months to get assistance from Safelink to no avail. My brother is disabled and he qualifies for a phone. He has had a safelink phone for over 4 years. This year when he got the paperwork for requalification we filled it out and sent it in. Safelink turned off his phone for some reason. When we contacted them they said they never got the requalification form. We then signed up again providing the necessary proof of qualification. His account has been sitting there Approved awaiting activation since October 27th. I have been trying since the first week of November to get his minutes on his phone. 3 times they have put in a Manual Escalation….I have waited 30 days as they asked and nothing has happened. I have spent over 8 hours on the phone over the past months talking to agents that can see he qualifies but cannot add the minutes. What good are they if they can’t fix a problem. I contacted the FCC and Lifeline . They gave me another phone number to call, which I di on January 5th. The agent I spoke with said the problem is solved…minutes should be added to his phone within 24 hours, and if they were not to call back. The minutes were NOT added as promised and I called back after the 24 hours period. The agent I talked to that time said he could not help me. He would have to put in another Manual Escalation. I think that means to send you account into Limbo. I can’t understand when they can clearly see the account is approved why they can’t add the minutes to the phone. I have asked if I need to provide more information and told that they have enough proof that he qualified. Safelink is has the worst customer service I have ever in my life came across. No one can fix a simple issue. They have put me on hold and then I was disconnected. They have said they would transfer my call to a supervisor and sent me back into the maze of push 1 for this and 3 for that. It is a total nightmare. How do they expect a disabled person to handle this? Or if a person does not have access to a landline have all the minutes trying to get help taken from then. I have spent over 100 dollars of my hard earned money on tracfone cards to keep my brothers phone active while trying to get safelink to solve this problem. Maybe that is the issue…they are making money by NOT providing the minutes to a customer who qualifies for them. I have even asked them to cancel the account so that I could sign up with a differet provider like Assurance. They tell me that they can’t even do that. At this point I don’t know what else to do. I am beyond Mad.

my phone was stolen, for three days I asked that it be cancelled out, since it says one phone replacement every two tears, which you would not do, violating the contract, then since I did not have phone I tried 4 times to get account cancelled through support option link on safelink page. safelink and tracphone are the same company. if you can’t do something in a support page why are yo having people use this option, oh you want them to add minutes. I had to make 19 count them 19 calls, to get the account cancelled so I could go with another provider. so that is what 20 hours you paid employee’s to do a job they could not or was directed not to do so you could keep receiving the money from the government. basically ripping off the American people. then your support people you can not understand and they do not understand us, you get excuses of it’s not my dept. Roberto, the supervisor was just really special. your in trouble, was it cost effective to not follow the contract obligations? in the long run you paid over 20 different employee’s at leats an hours wage and and got nothing done, oh service was cancelled out. I had to go beyond safe link AKA tracphone to get it done. no wonder America is in trouble. it’s not my job and I am afraid to take initiative, it’s not my dept call, and I explained I can not call, why do you even have a support chat if they can’t accomplish anything? Oh that right they are there to try to get you to add minutes only. hmmm you lost this money and in the end I wasted employee’s time. oh and by the way since you wasted mine for three days,. I am going to keep wasting employee time, keep contacting customer support. making that breach of contract cost. why because you wasted my time.

This is an on-going complaint from our readers, June. You have a couple options: (1) Call in, and continue to call in, until you get a competent, friendly customer service agent. Or (2) Switch to a different free government cell phone company. Here’s an article that tells you how to do it:

I have read “how do I get a replacement phone” however, I still have some questions. 1. I have had the same phone for over 2 years and the screen is cracked due to wear and tear. What is the policy to replace the phone? There has to be a time limit. You’ll probably find that each free government cell phone company has a slightly different twist on replacement phones. You may even find a different policy from customer service agent to customer service agent. That is, if you get a sympathetic one on the phone, they might just give you a replacement phone for free. And a longtime customer like you, who has never requested on before may also find a little sympathy from a customer service agent. But the odds are that you will be required to pay that $25 fee for a replacement phone.
There is an alternative way to accomplish your goal, Timothy. If you were to switch to a different Lifeline company, you would be given a smartphone by that company. Here’s an article that tells you how to make the switch if that’s what you decide to do:

I just tried technical support to change from Qlink to Safelink Cellular.I cancelled with Qlink earlyier this week.The customer support was terrible,the phone they supplied me with lost phones calls,wouldn’t work properly 99% of the time.I talked to Safelink customer support days before.The lady told me all I had to do is wait 60 days and all personal information toward qualification would be transferred.Today is 61 days.I called and Safelink customer support took my personal information.Later,he told me my contract with Qlink was locked and I couldn’t apply until October 27,2018!I’m upset I don’t have a reliable phone for my health emergencys!I went to the government web site and it states 60 days for phone service 12 months for internet.If something health wise happens to me I’m dead!I deserve better Safelink.Could someone call and help me?

The FCC has changed the 60 days/one year rule back to 60 days, but it has not yet gone into effect, Clarence. We’ll report the news of the change as soon as it happens. Until then, unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done.

One of the things that annoys us most about the Lifeline program is that most of the companies have skimped on customer service, making it impossible for their customers to get answers to the most basic questions.

Since we’re not your service provider, we can only guess, Michael. Sounds like your one year enrollment period is about to expire. Free government cell phone customers are required to recertify the they are eligible for the program once every year. Check out your service provider’s website to find out how to recertify.

I am not Alex, but i fully Agree with him. I had to have my phone replaced due to losing it. Shortly after it was replaced, i started having problem receiving my minutes every month, i have to call every month and add at least 6 different codes just to get my minutes. If that’s not a PAIN IN THE ASS, i would like to know what is. I have tried to get a straight answer but all i got was a half ass accuse. I for one, will warn everyone to stay away from safelink. their customer care service numbers does everything but help, the only thing its good for is a run around. Maybe if you they had a Number to call that had a real person, who could really help, there wouldn,t be so many complaints. Your rating with me is Zero.

First thing, Roger, is that it’s not “us,” because we are not your service provider. This is an independent informational website.
Second, it sounds as if your service provider is accurate when they say you already have one. Just because your phone stops working does not mean that your account has been terminated. For example, if your car stopped working, you would still have a car. Sounds like you need to get a replacement phone from your service provider.

If you upgrade through Safelink they will probably require you to pay a rather reasonable upgrade fee. However, if you switch service providers, the new provider will be required to give you a smartphone. Here’s an article that tells you how to make the switch:

My application date was August 21, 2017 and I was enrolled as of September 2, 2017 but THEN your shippiing department obviously couldn’t read so they CHANGED my shipping address from 8705 Creek Trail Lane # 524 Box 132 TO PO Box 132 !!!! So the phone got sent back to the warehouse and I was on the phone with a rep for an hour , in which time my correct address was REPEATEDLY stated so as to be sure it was correct and I STILL didn’t receive my phone until I called AGAIN and I received it the following week! I LOST an entire month of MINUTES ….WAITING for the phone to be delivered to the CORRECT address! I am OWED 350 MINUTES and I’m sure you will disagree with me as SERVICE seems to be less than competent so far! I appreciate being able to have this service available right now, as I’ve been unemployed for 8 months! But I also want the service I deserve which is the minutes I could have been using while I was waiting nearly a MONTH for the phone to be shipped to the CORRECT address!

I have had my safelink phone for about 2 months. During that time, I have had countless calls/messages from the company telling me that I needed to call a certain number to activate… which I did… each and every time. I make at least a dozen calls a week, yet my phone was deactivated today for lack of use. Policy requires at least one phone call a month. As stated I have well exceeded that requirement. When I call the 800 number for “support” all I get is a looped message and then disconnected. I am homeless and waiting for a call about a job. Any ideas on how to proceed so that I can get results and a reactivated phone?

I have this free gov. phone with i do not know with whom!! Tried the 611 number but no one can understand that version of english. This is the 3rd phone from i think is assusance but after repeated attempts of calling the 611 and being told call back later i gave up. The phones i ngot (allcatel) do not hold a charge for 1 day. Ifinally found an 800 number to call to “BUY” A new FLIP PHONE (ALCATEL) and foolishly i did give them my credit card #. Very low limit on credit card. Was assured this was a very good phone. Got the phone and not any better than ones i had. And also got “fraud” alert on my credit card someone trying to use it to buy clothing online. This was only time i have given my credit card n# on the phone so?????. Can i transfer to another company or can i upgrade to a ZTE ANDROID PHONE? Friend gave me the ZTE ANDROID.

Yes, you can switch to another company, but “when” depends on what kind of Lifeline plan you have. You can switch providers after 60 days if you have talk and text only. You must wait a full year if your plan includes data.

You have a couple choices, Paul. (1) Call customer service at 6-1-1 and see if they will replace your phone for free. They probably won’t, but they may because you’re a long-term customers. (2) Ask your service provider’s customer service team which phones are compatible with its network, then go out and purchase one of those phons. Or (3) Switch to a different free government cell phone company. As a new customer you will qualify for a smartphone.

I have been submitting documentation of driver license ,electric bill, state issued benefit documents etc ,ect, since July and been doing so every 3 days for 3 months and no matter what I do upload , take a picture or any thing I always get application pending , So I call and the same answer ever time it’s either expired or can’t read it , I don’t believe them first of all the documents are with in the time frame they want and the photos I send are perfectly clear on my tablet and on my friends phones. what is the problem do they just want my info for identity theft ! it’s been the same thing over and over !!!!

I enrolled in Safelink thru life line and requested a sim card to use my own phone. I have received 2 sim cards neither sim card worked even after getting technical support 2 different times. I was then told that I could no get a free phone instead unless I cancelled my account and then waited 90 days. This does not seem fair as I was not told that here was no sim card that will work in a samsug 6 that was purchased and unlocked from verizon.

It’s very odd that Safelink has a voice/hearing/vision-impaired policy, but no way for those customers to communicate with the company.
We’d recommend that you look at the websites for each of the Lifeline companies in your state, and enroll with one that has a customer chat or email service available for its customer service team. Here’s where you can find all the service provider’s in your state:

This is a common, but unfortunate situation, Lisa. How long had you had your service with your former service provider? If you had voice and text only, you can apply with another company after you’ve had the account for 60 days. If you have data as part of your plan, you must stay with your provider for one year. We’re not Safelink, Harold, so we didn’t tell you anything. If Safelink was incorrect about your phone status, there is a way to correct it. Here’s what it says on the USAC website says about your problem:
“My company says I already have Lifeline, but I don’t. Call USAC to find out which company thinks you are their customer. Then, contact the company you want to sign up with, and ask them to transfer your Lifeline.”

My name is Jacqueline Vickers, I applied for a Safelink phone in Douglas, Georgia with your representative named Christie, I was approved on the same day, I have not received my phone yet, and it has been two weeks, almost three. Can you please e-mail me , the status of my phone and the address where the phone is going to be mailed to, now this do not make any kind of sense. Please let me know, I have went back to the location where I was approved for the phone and Christie is no longer there and I cannot find my confirmation identification.

You should get the on the same date every month. That is usually the same date that your acccount was accepted. In other words, if your application was approved on the 4th of the month, your minutes should be added on the 4th of each month.

How long has it been, Donna? Most of the companies say it will take about two weeks, but our readers have often said it takes three or four weeks or even longer. Have you checked your status on your service provider’s website? If not, visit the website to see if it offers a “Check Your Status” function. Many of them do.

Crazy story, Carol. There’s no rational reason for this kind of delay. Try this: Call Safelink’s customer service team. Ask to speak to a supervisor. Read the article at the following link before you make that call.
The article tells you how to make a complaint and who to make it to. Tell your “service” provider that you are going to file complaints with the FCC, USAC and your state’s public utility commission if they don’t take some action to solve your problem.

Safelike / tracphon It has been a stressful past two months dealing countless hours on the phone with you so called tech call crew.. I had been on Your program for the past 12 plus years. enrollment #2719****. I asked many questions was sent two new phones and finally told sorry we can’t help you. I asked if they could suggest another disability program service. The person said we are only call center. I ask if I should send phones back and she said no and hung up. This happened in the department I was told as the main center 1-866-806 ****. All I want to say that your business standards at totally shameful. I have received my phone but t-mobile is not in my area. Called tech support an they FINALLY got it to work over my wi-fi from home. If I can only use it at home its not really helping cause I will soon not have wi-fi. Can it not be verizon or sprint. I understood it would be sprint.

You probably have even bigger problems, Deb. The rules of the Lifeline program say that an account that goes unused for 30 days will be cancelled. So the odds are that you no longer have an account for which to get a replacement phone. You need to contact Safelink’s customer service team ASAP.

I still have not received my new phone which was promised may 30, 2017. I have called customer service more than 20 times and either technical support hangs up or they tell me to wait 7 to 10 days for my phone. I never received a phone. I filled application on June 21st, the woman said 7 to 10 days I’d receive it in the mail. At 1st they told me I’d get the phone on the spot that was just to lure me in to fill application out. How do I got about cancelling so I can go to another service that will give me a phone. I’m told I’m not eligible now until March.

Don’t be quite so hasty, Patricia. Most companies say the phones will arrive in two weeks, but our readers say it’s usually more like three or four weeks or even longer. If you have already enrolled, your company was correct that you will be stuck with that company for twelve months.

my enrollment # is 649****, my cell phone # is 715-456-****. I can’t get text messages on my phone, it keeps say message box if full and to delete old messages. I have done that, which I clear old messages all the time, but now I can’t get any new text msgs and can’t tell if my texts are going out either.
