First things first: As we’ve said approximately a thousand times, FreeGovernmentCellPhones.net is an independent informational website. We are not affiliated with any Lifeline free government cell phone company in any way.
Yes, we understand it is sometimes it’s difficult to find your service provider’s customer support team. That’s why we do everything we can to make that task easier. Unfortunately, you cannot find them here on this page.
This was originally a completely blank internal housekeeping page that was supposed to be invisible to our readers. But Google does such a great job of searching out information that thousands of readers have stumbled upon it and left comments that now number in the hundreds.
But for your convenience, we’ve listed all the Lifeline service providers together on one page.
Just click any company name on that page and you’ll be taken to a page dedicated to that service provider. That’s where you can find all the information you need — including what plans are available, the states in which they are available, AND customer support contact info.

James M. Velazquez says
I am attempting to obtain HELP from Safelink as I have recieved their SIM card after approval. I am reluctant to do this without support as I did this with TAG mobile and ended up with NO SERVICE as “Lifeline FCC” determined that I had TWO Lifeline services when I indeed did NOT. I went without phone service for over a week until things got resolved with TAG Mobile.
I have tried obtaining an email from Safelink to contact them, they do not post an email. I tried using CHAT at the Safelink website, no one answers? I found an email on the internet somewhere, they just came back as Mailer demon. This means I have no way to obtain Safelink service. When I have tried calling Safelink, there is a 30 minute wait time. My question is: Is Safelink a reliable Lifeline service? I have lousy service with TAG Mobile, is it better to stay with TAG mobile? After all, if both are lousy, then why switch? JIM
Free Government Cell Phones says
It’s impossible for us to say which is the most reliable because there are so many variables. However, if it were up to us we would switch because you may get better service from another company. Maybe, maybe not. But you have nothing to lose at this point.
James M. Velazquez says
I have used Qlink and TAG Mobile, both proved to be unreliable, especially Qlink, the worst. I have attempted to use Safelink and have recieved the SIM card yet I call and there is a 30 minute wait to speak to someone? This is rediculous. I tried the “CHAT” feature at Safelink website, no one is there? If I want lousy service I can stay with TAG mobile. At least Tag Mobile answers their CHAT on weekdays only? I am looking for a reliable Lifelilne service. Can someone help, please. JIM

Lori J says
My experience with SafeLink is not that great. I was on the EBB program and SafeLink disconnected me saying I was with another provider. Come to find out I wasn’t. They claim the national verifier system said I was with another provider when again I wasn’t. I’ve called the EBB support center I don’t know how many times and they said it wouldn’t matter just tell them to do a benefit transfer. SafeLink claims they don’t do benefit transfers and I have to apply on there site. When I go to my account on SafeLink it says I can’t apply for EBB at this time. I’ve reported this company to the FCC.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Sorry to hear about your problems, Lori.
J Ward says
Hi.
I just wanted to post an experience:
My home is only my daughter and I. I am seeking reentry into the workforce after car crash left me with broken spine and 3.5 years rehabilitation.
That said, first I’m grateful for the services available. Safelink has been fairly easy to work with. I live very rural area. Safelink had me try all carriers before At&t–they, and no other, must be the povider/mvno for my address.
My experience was last night. I’d upgraded to EBB. My service became terrible. I had 1.7 Mbps down and 0.1 Mbps up. I’m a technology enthusiast, so I’ve some deal of self taught coding to hacking to repairs both hard and soft, and as of late, a solid understanding of DeFi.
I contacted Safelink. They said my phone checks out. They then asked if I had another number with which they could contact me. I do not. They said I’d need another device for them to be able to help me. I said, “Thanks, I’ll see what I can do.”
…and I will, but…
If I am on Lifeline, I am entitled to only one phone number
I really do not know what else to add here, except homework is more difficult.
I find the request of a second device to be very peculiar to the point of unfair.
Anyone else had this experience?
Regards
Henry says
First of all, spinal injuries are life changing events (which I am very familiar with) and I wish you the best in your recovery.
It is rather odd that by opting into EBB, your service degraded, EBB is not supposed to change anything regarding the service and its main benefit is to provide discounts to your new or existing services and devices. You are not locked to one provider for EBB benefits. You can switch to another company. If you do so, the enhanced benefits with the current company will end.
Some companies request an alternative phone number to contact you if there are issues. If your Lifeline phone suddenly went dead, you would need to contact the provider somehow to notify them that you no longer can use the phone. You said that the home is under your daughter and yourself, does not your daughter have a phone of her own? If yes, you could ask her if you can share her phone number with the company.
Lori says
Report the company to the FCC.

Mel P says
I have had a Safelink phone for several years. I have a old flip phone, which will not charge. It doesn’t have water damage. I have been trying to get it replaced for FOUR MONTHS. Over 30 calls, all with different results – if the tech doesn’t “accidently” hang up on me. Today, I am told that I have to go to my nearest UPS store (70mi away) and get them to pull up a ticket. I then need to pay to send this paperweight from 200b.c. back to them. The kicker, because I am not a “new” safelink customer, I am not entitled to a smart phone like the “new” safelink users get. I do not have money or transportation to GET to the UPS store, much less back or to pay for shipping. Safelink is just as bad as TracFone – will screw you at ever opportunity. This is why I will now go phoneless – I refuse after 15 YEARS to spend another penny on their shoddy, overpriced phones and services.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Don’t blame you. That’s a terrible way to treat a long-time customer. Have you considered switching to a different service provider? They will consider you a new customer and provide you with a smart phone when you open your account.

Bought the Wrong Network Phone!
I am with the California Lifeline provide by Tracfone. Tracfone required me to upgrade my phone to VoLTE one, So I bought one from Safelink wireless online.
I found that I purchased the wrong network phone when I opened the package and saw the T-Mobile SIM card. I didn’t pay attention because I was according to their upgrade phone direction to the shop. SafeLink should have known better and not sent me the wrong phone!
Problem is: Tracfone gave me the dead line on 09-29-2020, which will be too late if I return the phone and start everything all over again.
So I wonder if I just call SafeLink Tech and ask them to fix thing through the phone?!
Thanks!
Free Government Cell Phones says
No way we can be sure, but it sounds as if the phone you received is not compatible with Safelink’s network. Of course, that’s a complete guess on our part based on the limited info we have. If that’s the case, there is no way to “fix” the phone. You’ll need to get a different one that is compatible.

I was requested by Tracfond Safelink to upgrade my phone to a VoLTE support phone. Ironically, the phones in the shop are either out of stock or don’t support VoLTE. Not sure if it’s just me or something going on with the phone provider?
Anyway, I wonder if I could just go get a pre-owned VoLTE phone from BestBuy just put my sim card in and still keep the LifeLine phone service?
Thank you if anyone could respond!

I have a cell phone by CA lifeline because I am enrolled in SNAP. I think the carrier is Safelink. Currently I am in India and I am stuck here because of the nationwide lockout. I carried my phone with me and now I may not be able to return for at least 2 months. Will my phone get cancelled because I did not make any calls within US for 2 months? I want to make sure you keep my active because I will need the phone when I return back to the US. what should I do?
Free Government Cell Phones says
Under normal circumstances the answer is yes, your phone would be cancelled. We have not heard that any of the Lifeline companies have made any changes to this policy. We think they would be unable to make that change without the USAC declaring a change in the program. Could you send your phone home to someone you trust who can make an occasional phone call just to keep your account active.
If there are any changes to the program (such as in your situation) we will report it here immediately.

I have been having a problem with my data. I keep getting text and told that I used my data limit and far exceeded it. But I have not been able to send an email or go past 2 or 3 clicks on Facebook or other sites, in over a month. I was suppose to get my free Gig on the 1st of the month. But it’s been the same problem for a month. I even bought 2 G’s of data and had problems getting that working or even on my account. Why does it say at the top of the page just below menu “safelink wireless customer support” when you have no affiliation with safelink? And then you get frustrated by all of the people thinking you’re safelink customer support. Your frustration shows in your replies.
I understand that if you removed it, you would lose a lot of traffic but its a big waste of time for people needing help that you can’t give them.
Free Government Cell Phones says
I’ve been staring at at your comment and wondering what to do with it every night when I take over comment moderatorating.

Hope that makes you happier, WorthPublishingButYouWont. But since we did finally print your comment verbatim, looks like you’ll need to choose a new screen name next time.

Now I’ve called 5 times already this morning and don’t want to play this waiting game again today. I was told be the recording today to turn the phone on and wait 5 minutes and then call back. I lost my Safelink phone in September and called to see if I could have my service held until I was able to purchase a replacement phone. I knew I would have to get a SIm Card and called the supplier to request help. I had purchased a phone only to be told it had to be a Tracfone. I do not recall being told I had to have a Tracfone when I had reported my loss. I requested my service be held until I could reactivate it. My phone purchase was from a different supplier. I am embarrassed to hear such a condition at this late time.
I guess I want to know why I was not informed of that stipulation when I requested a hold until I was able to replace the lost phone. I would have made a different decision about the replacement I chose. To prevent another client facing a similar response, please consider sending a letter of clear directions which can in the future avoid embarrassment, especially with a forgetful distracted person.

What is the deal with the switch to VoLTE phones? I got a note from safelink telling me my phone needs to be replaced because of this. They do NOT list a turn off date for old phones nor tell you if any phones are currently capable of VoLTE except (supposedly) the ones in their store. These do not explicitly state they are VoLTE compliant, which makes me wonder if my current cheep smartphone is not already VoLTE compliant. Are they just trying to sell a lot of phones? And if I do need to replace my phone to be VoLTE compliant, will they replace it with a new low end smart phone for free? I am not real happy about the prospect of having to shell out a big bunch of money I don’t have on a phone they are phasing out. If I busted it I would understand that is on me, but in this case it seems wrong.

Free Government Cell Phones says
Oops. As you now know, you should have enrolled in BYOP if your phone wasn’t compatible. Seems to us that you have two options: (1) Go out and buy a phone that is compatible, or (2) Enroll with a different company that operates on a network that’s compatible with your current phone.
FML says
Safelink sent me a Keep Your Own Phone SIM card kit with activation instructions “easy as 1-2-3-4″. Steps 1 & 2 are unnecessary as well as uninformative…”Step 1: Select SIM Card” and “Step 2: Insert SIM Card”…not even lying!
“Step 3: Activate Service”
“Get a New Number”:
Turn on your phone
Follow the prompts”
“Keep (Transfer) Your Number”:
Call 1-800-378-1684
Follow the prompts
You will need the account
information and
password/PIN of “your
ACTIVE account with you
OTHER PROVIDER” ???😕
And finally…
“Step 4: Data Settings”
“Android and Other Phones”
To program your APN settings, text APN to 611611
Aaaand, that’s it! Easy as 1234! NOT! You have to tear off a section of the envelope/kit paperboard to open it all the way to read these simple instructions On the inside of that torn piece is the heading
“NEED HELP?”
“Visit SafeLink.com or call 1-800-SafeLink”
Under that it has a paragraph bubble that reads, “GSM: Your compatible GSM phone must be in good standing. Actual availability, coverage, and speed may vary. For your phone’s data services to work, you must update your APN data settings, also called the Access Point Name. Branded phones are NOT ELIGIBLE for this program, including but not limited to Blackberry, TracFone, Net10, Straight Talk, Telcel, Simple Mobile, and….SAFELINK..” WTF????😵🔫 💣📲

William R Ingles says
I would like to chat with a person in authority at Safelink. Once again this year my service has been disconnected and as far as I know, I’ve done nothing wrong. I depend totally on the Safelink service and every single year my phone service is disconnected for no good reason.
In the past, the people I’ve talked to on the phone at Safelink seem to want to help but they don’t seem to know how to resolve the problems I’ve asked them to help me with. For instance, no fewer that four times I have tried to get someone on Safelink’s support team to update my address, and my address is still listed incorrectly.
On July 7th, I called Safelink to ask why I was getting almost daily text messages from 70133, messages that in no way explain themselves. I was told, on July 7th, that my account was in perfect standing, and that no renewal was pending. Then on July 10th, my phone service was cancelled. I offered to fax whatever was required to get the phone service restored, but was told I would have to return a form by mail with the necessary information. I was told that I would receive that required form in the mail in ten days. It’s now been thirteen days and I still have not received the form I’m supposed to fill out and return to Safelink.
Why am I without Safelink phone service? Who can honestly and accurately tell me what’s wrong and get my phone service restored. I’m being treated at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for serious problems and I desperately need my Safelink phone service reconnected.
I know Safelink can help me, if the people at Safelink choose to. Please help me.
Thank you.

Tammy says
My brother’s phone burnt along with the entire home of my elderly parents, whom he was caring for. This particular phone along with many irreplaceable items, memories, and childhood home, luckily my father with Alzheimer’s escaped. I attempted to get my brother, who is ill a replacement. With no avail. I was told if it was lost or stolen safelink could not replace numerous times. This phone was not lost or stolen, it is laying out there in ashes. My brother has no access to a phone. Could you please call me at 606-481-5050. I am not understanding how this unfortunate event can prevent my brother to having telephone access to call 911 when need be. Luckily, a friend was there both times he has needed 911 in last month. Please, have a heart and call me we have dealt with enough since Thanksgiving, to be turned down for a government account because we can’t return phone.
Free Government Cell Phones says
We are NOT Safelink, Tammy, so it won’t do any good for us to call you. In this case, we don’t think Safelink is any different than any other Lifeline company. None of them will replace multiple phones no matter what the reason. You have two choices: (1) Pay for a replacement Safelink phone, or (2) enroll your brother with a different company. Making that switch will make him a new customer and he will receive a phone from that new company. Here’s where you can find a list of all the free government cell phone companies in his state:

Mark Welcome says
I really don’t know where to begin, and for the life of me I hope this is an actual email connect to safelink.
I’m thinking just simplify it,…
” the phone I have is impossible to hear anyone clearly speak,….EX; i…..id…ca..fads..is..ple..ah.. Usually sounds like that 99% of the time./// it is so embarrassing, I cant even want to make a important phone call.
Most importantly,…I ( with my endless patience )…have been dealing with this for over a year. People wont call me anymore,..I cant get clear sound for ever. It is always unbelievably devastating trying to talk to anyone.
So add the “no service” thing, which constantly happens randomly ever couple of minutes, and the phone hangs up. I guess “ITS END OF STORY HERE”…the phone is not a phone at all. so I am hoping that you people could actually send me something more connected with real time here….I would so appreciated!!!!!!!…don’t you have used I-phones or something like that that have been donated?….After doing for a year …i really cant see myself on another one of these ( unbelievably cheap LG crap phones )…I am begging you,…and most importantly,..I have showed endless patience with such horrible horrible service….I will say ” that at this point I deserve a much better,..much better,..working phone…that works !!!!..
thanks

I added a $10 TracFone data card to my phone who I have with SafeLink. After I added it, I wasnt able to make or receive calls and my messaging stop also. Kept getting message blocked .. I contacted SafeLink to help me with this and all I got was lies, run around, and 2 days later I’m still dealing with it. And no results of getting my mins back or messaging fixed. All these call center people keep telling me is that I used all mins and text message up . That’s crock of crap. My text are unlined so how did I use them up.
Thing is soon as I added extra data plan to my account with TracFone all my original plan features I have with SafeLink stopped. Have yet to get any help from any SafeLink call person I’ve talked to.
I’m very upset, angry, and mad about this situation. And pissed cause seems like the only way to fix it is to have to add a airtime plan card and basically start new plan for 30 days
All this is a mess. I’m ready to throw phone in River and get a real cell provider and carrier
People are being ripped off.
Bri says
I just came searching for suggestions for the same exact thing I paid $15 to upgrade to unlimited talk and text….and now I’m getting the same message you are and I can’t make or receive phone calls and all they keep telling me to do is the restart my phone. Iwould like to tell them what I’d like to do with this phone. Lol. Have you had any luck since posting this?
Rocky Galati says
I tried to change my phone number to a new phone.
I spent HOURS on the phone with customer DON’Tcare doing so, and NOTHING happened. A week later they sent me a NEW sim card and told me to call back and try again.
I called back and spent MORE hours on the phone, after which, my original phone would NOT work anymore. I called back and spent MORE time on the phone, after which they promised to send me ANOTHER new sim card.
I have MS and am on disability. Taking my phone from me is dangerous to me. The government provides this phone for that reason. I ALSO have anxiety and staying on the phone SO long is also dangerous to me.
I am SORRY I even tried to use a better phone.
I NEED my old phone working right away. PLEASE!!

Con jr. says
Hi everyone, im just going to leave a quick review of SafeLink wireless. While not meant to sway anyone in America in their decision to go safelink, i feel it to be my civic duty to share the Facts of my experience with them. I had SafeLink for 4 years, same number, woke up one day to No service. I contact customer service & finally get through after 2 days of trying. I speak with 4 different operators they kept transferring me to because they had no idea how to help me.?. I told the last one i was speaking with that i was getting quite sick of explaining that NOYHING about my info had changed since day one & my re-certification was alway current so AGAIN, i need to speak to a SUPERVISOR, NOT just someone in the cubicle behind you”. I mean 4 days of this was working on my patience as well as the fact that no one there speaks English well enough to be in Customer Service! This Agent disconnected my call! I call for the 30th time, get another agent & POOF just like that my enrollment status went from qualified/approved/enrolled to CANCELED! YES IN A MATTER OF MINUTES! For an entire year i worked trying to get my service back to no avail. Finally 8 months ago i was shocked when i called & the agent spoke as if she was American, yes perfect english!! I actually teared up! A month later i received a byop TMobile compatible sim card (only provider to have service in my area) only to find out i couldn’t keep the same number because the previous agent who had got mad & cancelled my service had also unattached my number that day. wow!! So i think alls well, use my phone for 5 weeks but data service goes out, hmmm, i call customer service and get instructed to do an update…yes you guessed it- NO SERVICE!! So, thats been 7 months & 12 days ago. I finally managed to get to use a phone from a neighbor a mile away which i walked to because i have no car, get it all worked out over 5 calls to them. Approved on 12/31/18, my sim would arrive in 10 days. NEVER ARRIVED! Website says im good to go!! However im Not! I can only gey as far as contact numbers for them because THERES NO OTHER WAY TO CONTACT SAFELINK OTHER THAN TO CALL!! WELL GUESS WHAT SAFELINK WIRELESS?-?- I HAVE NO MEANS BY WHICH TO CALL YOU BEING SINCE I CANNOT SEEM TO BE ABLE TO GET ANYONE THERE TO DO THE JOB THEY ARE PAID TO DO! I’ve since contacted Main headquarters, better business bureau, fcc, & tracfone (their parent company) with complaints. Based on my own experiences, extensive research, & word of mouth from tons upon tons of current & former SafeLink Wireless customers- Safelink Wireless Ranks at the Bottom of the list of free wireless providers in all areas including Process, Communication, Professionalism, Knowledge, Follow Through, Chain of Command, Consistency, & Above all else, Customer Service/Support!
Safelink Wireless receives
the point level grade of —0
Again not trying to influence anyones decision, just sharing public knowledge & my own very stressful & frustrating experiences.
(In lieu of an even longer post, let me add that my experiences ive shared today are only a drop in the bucket. My experience with Safelink was & has been way worse than the little ive shared with you & well documented. Safelink wireless in the extreme Least needs optional avenues in order to contact customer service. Customer Service is a Pride for in most every business or corporation, Not at all a concern for SafeLink employees.
Again guys, my views. Please America, do a search on Google for free phone service providers or on this site, you have options! Choose wisely.
Sincerely, I bought a BullHorn
Kristy Railey says
I completely agree. Have had many of your same experience with them myself. I am very unhappy with them and things I’ve been going through with them. And I also was hung up on twice by SafeLink customer service people. So I don’t and wouldn’t recommend SafeLink wireless to anyone at this point. Thinking seriously about cancelling my service with them.

I have a safelink phone but I recently moved from one state (where I was approved for the phone) to another. I tried to update my account but it says I need to put a new address from the state I previously lived. Do you have any suggestions on how to update to my current state? Will I have to cancel my current account and reapply for this new state? Is there any way I can keep the current number? Thanks!
Free Government Cell Phones says
You can keep your current account until your annual recertification rolls around, and you’ll probably need to re-enroll with the same company or, if you can find a better plan in your new state, with a new company. Here’s where you can find all the plans in your new state:

Belinda O'Neil Sherman says
I have been trying to change back over to Safelink lifeline service for 2 months now. I have been with Assurance Wireless for about a year and decided to go back to Safelink. It’s been a struggle b/c I tried to do the application in my maiden name since I got a divorce and the Food stamp office refuses to supply me with an update or award letter acknowledging that the name change until there is a change in my household circumstances, which there won’t be any change.I contacted Safelink and an employee made out another application with my married name since my food stamp card is in that name and they sent me a Worksheet to make out and it was in my maiden name again which won’t work and on top of that the name was spelled wrong for the 2nd time, which really doesn’t matter b/c it was supposed to be sent to me in my married name anyway. I made the form out and sent it to the in 3 or 4 emails b/c my email client won’t let me send that many pages at once. I looked online the next day, and it was rejected! at first and they said they didn’t receive them even though the emails did not say failure to send, so I sent them again! For some reason, Safelink thinks I’m trying to scam them and I am losing my patience. HELP! What do I do? I have cancelled my Assurance Wireless phone b/c they gave me such a hard time about having a gov’t phone already. It is not illegal to have a gov’t phone and keep it till your service is transferred b/c I looked it up! Now I have no phone…

Jack P says
I have SafeLink. I am looking to drop monthly bills even further to help here. I want to cut off completely VZ landline services. An agent at Safelink says my home phone number is available to port. I hope I can trust that because he says the first action is to drop VZ. And tell them I’m porting my number. I hope that is correct because I would not want VZ to put my number in a pool of availables and me lose that landline number. Reason being the last 4 of our landline number has been in the family for over 70 years so everyone knows us by that number. Then agent says call SafeLink back and port to the SafeLink phone. I hope someone can verify this is correct procedure. Thanks in advance! jep
Free Government Cell Phones says
Numbers are not immediately made available. They usually sit in limbo for a number of months. But here’s where you can find exactly the info you need about switching companies:

Make sure you tell the customer service agent that “I want to port over my current phone number.” Say it at the beginning of the conversation, again in the middle, and confirm it again before you end the call.

Hello,
I recently got a replacement phone via Safelink. It’s a smartphone. I can’t use it, and I have no other phone with which to call you.
My desktop does not support Wi-Fi. The phone does not support Windows 10, which is what I have. Pertinent information to follow.
PLEASE, can I return this? It has ONE bar, it’s totally unusable. I only need phone, voicemail, and text, I have no use for fancy apps. I LOVED my old Tracfone LG 441g. Another plain flip phone is what I need.
Linda Linchy
I just got a text saying that this phone needs an upgrade, but nothing after that came, I’m sure because the phone has no bars! Repeat: I have NO ACCESS to another phone to fix this, and I am disabled. And alone.
This phone is a ZTE ZFIVE G smartphone

First things first, Thomas. NEVER leave your personal info on a public website. We took the liberty of deleting it to protect you from identity theft.
We cannot explain your problem with Assurance. If you’ve had the account with them for all those years we have no idea why your info is suddenly invalid. Have you asked to speak to a supervisor? holy crap the same thing is currently happening with me and im ready to pull my hair out. last time i spoke with safelink 3 days ago a very heavily accented lady told me my freakin FLIP PHONE is on its way. i think i will spend my entire day (as much as i can with a husband who has stage 4 lung cancer with brain mets) and call these ppl over and over and while i am holding i will be live chatting1 i am completelly over the insane run around these ppl are giving me. i am grateful to be pproved for a free phone and free service, but its nearly impossibe to review the hospitals new patient portal to see changesin my husbands condition with a dang flip phone. thank you for this site as im able to vent my frustrations. i apoplgize for any typos as it is 3 a.m. and i am going on 48 hours of no sleep and NO DAMN PHONE,yet i have a very compact, nice and sleek sim card to look at and it even arrived in bubble wrap!!! i dont expect a commient or anything. i just found this site while using my mothers very nice 5 inch screen smartphone that safelink issued her a couple of weeks ago after she called and told them she is tired of her old phone. yep, sent no questions asked, and yep she is my neighbor and lives about 500 feet from my back yard. same service area. i appreciate the oppertunity to vent my total frustration. i thought about just switching to assurance but they require a 7 to 10 day wait after you apply online to even find out if you quilify. i cant wait that long. i nee3d a damn phone now. my husband needs to be able to at least look at our daughter on a screen since he cant see her in person. smh people suck and cancer sucks more.

Free Government Cell Phones says
It depends on how long you’ve been a customer, Jessica. First thing you need to do is speak to customer service. If you’ve been a long-time customer and have never needed a replacement phone before, they may give you another free one. If you’re a brand new customer and the phone they sent you doesn’t work, they should send you another one. But they may ask you to pay a relatively small replacement fee.

Free Government Cell Phones says
Sigh. We’re not Safelink, so we have no idea why you didn’t get your monthly minutes. Maybe those folks working in Safelink’s customer service department could answer your question.
Thomas S. Triwedi says
Hi. I have a free Tracephone through Safelink because of my economic situation. Just recently I have been having difficulty charging the phone. It might be the battery, the port, or the charger, I’m not sure. I’m only able to charge it for a minute or so of use and then it shuts off. What do you suggest I do?
Free Government Cell Phones says
Take it to a phone store and ask if they can help figure out which piece of the puzzle is defective. You can probably purchase a replacement for the defective part on eBay pretty inexpensively.
The other option is to switch service providers, because the new service provider will provide you with a smartphone.
Jon Ramsey says

Cheyenne Williams says
I was on the 500 min a month plan and now it’s saying I only have 350 a month what happened
Free Government Cell Phones says
Call 6-1-1 on your free government cell phone to be connected to customer service. But if we were to hazard a guess it would be that you had a 500 minute/month introductory plan and it has now been reduced to 350 per month now that the introductory period has expired.

I have Qlink and want to go to safelink for the better network and Qlink told me that’s not allowed. If you cancel you can’t go anywhere for a year. I’ve been with Qlink for years. You have an article that said to call new provider and they will transfer my lifeline to them without any inturruption in service. I called safelink and they said they will not. They said I have to cancel Qlink first then sign up and apply with safelink. But Qlink says that’s not allowed by the government for at least a year. What’s the real story?
Free Government Cell Phones says
The real story is what the USAC.org says. And here’s an article telling you EXACTLY what the usac says:
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/faq/how-do-i-switch-lifeline-providers
Joe says
Thank you. I learned since Qlink has data you have to be there a year. I’ve been there several years. So am I able to switch? I’m confused. Sorry.

Same here. I spent over 2 hours on the phone switching it on and off like they kept telling me to do and transferring me to different draprtments. I had to give up and call back the next day. Then I was told I have to reapply. Why did they send me a phone, if I wasn’t approved yet? Very strange and annoying.

After being a Safelink customer for 2+ years. They terminated my mother’s contact with no notice. When I called and spoke to the overseas call center, the agent stated that my mother failed to recertify. I told the agent she never received the annual recertification letter, the agent said ” we no longer send out letters, you need to refile using the phone or on their website. After providing the agent with all the requested data to recertify my mother’s contract, the agent said: “we will mail you the confirmation form in the mail”. After three weeks and no form, I called to ask for the status, I was informed that my mother’s recertification was denied as the COMPUTER shows that she has another carrier. I informed the agent that she does not have any other phone carrier, the agent said “That’s what appears on the computer”
After several unsuccessful attempts to extract the name of this so-call carrier, the agent said “it doesn’t say on the computer” I called my local assemblyman office to see if they were aware of any issues with the program, and I was informed that Safelink is terminating contracts without any notice for subscribers that don’t have Medicaid.
Has anyone gone thru this?
Free Government Cell Phones says
It’s probably no consolation, Ralph, but thousands of our readers have suffered the same fate. There’s an easy way to find out who (or if) your mom is enrolled with. Go to USAC.org and search for the services they offer. One of those services is looking up service providers in cases like yours.

I was with Safelink for 5 years and left a year and half ago when my flip phone started acting up. They sent me a replacement that was having the same issue , then a second one and after hours and days on the phone trying to resolve this issue i ended up forced to go with another lifeline company who at the time had a great deal by giving us an android phone that safelink didnt offer. A year with the company i went with that had great customer experience but poor 3gnetwork i decided to return to safelink on January 3rd 2018. What a journey. 2 pages of notes, over 20 supervisors , and probably 40+ reps.. hours and days to get my enrollment id attached again that they never deleted. Now ive been on the phone 40 minutes on 2nd escalation on why the enrollment id does not still attach. ive done all you , safelink has asked me to do. 4 ticket numbers last one being 117787337… ticket number 11765767, ticket number 1177787784 and many , many confirmation call numbers. poor rep who just answered. hopefully she can figure it out … why my enrollment is not attaching , now i find its because of my recertification… certification unsuccessful. a new one .. yet on the account on their end im enrolled and still pending.. so this poor rep .. i hope will finally help me. Safelink is the best lifeline service as far as service and network but customer service is a whole different story and this service is fine until you have an issue then good luck with getting it resolved on 1-10 phone calls if you are lucky!! Im giving up after this!! if not finally resolved. my last call confirmation after waiting 30 minutes for a second level rep and having to explain all for the 100th time oh and ive been calling from my computer otherwise guess what .. my minutes would have been used up trying to resolve all this and since my enrollment id still can not get attached i cant get the monthly plan either. go figure. I have two pages of notes front and back.. anyone like them?? im not sure at this point if i send corporate a detailed assesment if they will even figure it out since over 40 reps and 20 supervisors have not been able to?? Is is cause i left and now this is the punishment..lol.. no closure at this point except for a poor customer service, inconsistent…now im being told after all this i have to disenroll and enroll again. Well if i disenrolled over a year and a half ago and tied to re enroll on january 3, 2018 and the system did not let me online or with many reps… why am i having to disenroll again?? now im told its because of regulations. ok shes trying to do this for me today… i hope somewone here takes notice so i dont have to spend more time in an assessment to their corporate office!!! her manager that there are options for me to disenroll and enroll but she doesnt have access it i have to wait till they ..so is they.. oh the administration office cancels my account which there is no explanation why over a year an a half ago it wasnt when i formally left safelink my account wasnt cancelled. i fell in a loop hole according to this rep and her manager no resolution i just have to wait for administration.. end of call. how long, who knows?? wonderful rep but her hands are tied due to Safelink’s administration processes…. Confirmation call # today # 1587872136 not the reps fault.. its the administrative dept of safelin. awful .. let me take it to prayer.. its either this or get a lawyer!! i lost very important calls last month due to disconnections also thru this process and not being able to get your plan! Safelink.. another lifeline company gets the same services you have i guarantee you if you do not change your customer service administration you will loose in the long run! my advice to you!!

Linda says
I have been trying over 3 months to get assistance from Safelink to no avail. My brother is disabled and he qualifies for a phone. He has had a safelink phone for over 4 years. This year when he got the paperwork for requalification we filled it out and sent it in. Safelink turned off his phone for some reason. When we contacted them they said they never got the requalification form. We then signed up again providing the necessary proof of qualification. His account has been sitting there Approved awaiting activation since October 27th. I have been trying since the first week of November to get his minutes on his phone. 3 times they have put in a Manual Escalation….I have waited 30 days as they asked and nothing has happened. I have spent over 8 hours on the phone over the past months talking to agents that can see he qualifies but cannot add the minutes. What good are they if they can’t fix a problem. I contacted the FCC and Lifeline . They gave me another phone number to call, which I di on January 5th. The agent I spoke with said the problem is solved…minutes should be added to his phone within 24 hours, and if they were not to call back. The minutes were NOT added as promised and I called back after the 24 hours period. The agent I talked to that time said he could not help me. He would have to put in another Manual Escalation. I think that means to send you account into Limbo. I can’t understand when they can clearly see the account is approved why they can’t add the minutes to the phone. I have asked if I need to provide more information and told that they have enough proof that he qualified. Safelink is has the worst customer service I have ever in my life came across. No one can fix a simple issue. They have put me on hold and then I was disconnected. They have said they would transfer my call to a supervisor and sent me back into the maze of push 1 for this and 3 for that. It is a total nightmare. How do they expect a disabled person to handle this? Or if a person does not have access to a landline have all the minutes trying to get help taken from then. I have spent over 100 dollars of my hard earned money on tracfone cards to keep my brothers phone active while trying to get safelink to solve this problem. Maybe that is the issue…they are making money by NOT providing the minutes to a customer who qualifies for them. I have even asked them to cancel the account so that I could sign up with a differet provider like Assurance. They tell me that they can’t even do that. At this point I don’t know what else to do. I am beyond Mad.
johnmorrill says
my phone was stolen, for three days I asked that it be cancelled out, since it says one phone replacement every two tears, which you would not do, violating the contract, then since I did not have phone I tried 4 times to get account cancelled through support option link on safelink page. safelink and tracphone are the same company. if you can’t do something in a support page why are yo having people use this option, oh you want them to add minutes. I had to make 19 count them 19 calls, to get the account cancelled so I could go with another provider. so that is what 20 hours you paid employee’s to do a job they could not or was directed not to do so you could keep receiving the money from the government. basically ripping off the American people. then your support people you can not understand and they do not understand us, you get excuses of it’s not my dept. Roberto, the supervisor was just really special. your in trouble, was it cost effective to not follow the contract obligations? in the long run you paid over 20 different employee’s at leats an hours wage and and got nothing done, oh service was cancelled out. I had to go beyond safe link AKA tracphone to get it done. no wonder America is in trouble. it’s not my job and I am afraid to take initiative, it’s not my dept call, and I explained I can not call, why do you even have a support chat if they can’t accomplish anything? Oh that right they are there to try to get you to add minutes only. hmmm you lost this money and in the end I wasted employee’s time. oh and by the way since you wasted mine for three days,. I am going to keep wasting employee time, keep contacting customer support. making that breach of contract cost. why because you wasted my time.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Unfortunately, you have described exactly what you need to do, John. You also might want to consider filing a formal complaint because that usually gets the service provider’s attention. Here’s an article that tells you exactly what to do:

Timothy Twyman says
I have read “how do I get a replacement phone” however, I still have some questions.
1. I have had the same phone for over 2 years and the screen is cracked due to wear and tear. What is the policy to replace the phone? There has to be a time limit. These phones don’t last forever and I am on a fixed income which is why I need a government phone and I can not afford $25 for a new phone. What can you do to help me?
Free Government Cell Phones says
You’ll probably find that each free government cell phone company has a slightly different twist on replacement phones. You may even find a different policy from customer service agent to customer service agent. That is, if you get a sympathetic one on the phone, they might just give you a replacement phone for free. And a longtime customer like you, who has never requested on before may also find a little sympathy from a customer service agent. But the odds are that you will be required to pay that $25 fee for a replacement phone.
There is an alternative way to accomplish your goal, Timothy. If you were to switch to a different Lifeline company, you would be given a smartphone by that company. Here’s an article that tells you how to make the switch if that’s what you decide to do:
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/faq/how-do-i-switch-lifeline-providers

I just tried technical support to change from Qlink to Safelink Cellular.I cancelled with Qlink earlyier this week. The customer support was terrible, the phone they supplied me with lost phones calls, wouldn’t work properly 99% of the time.I talked to Safelink customer support days before. The lady told me all I had to do is wait 60 days and all personal information toward qualification would be transferred.Today is 61 days.I called and Safelink customer support took my personal information.Later,he told me my contract with Qlink was locked and I couldn’t apply until October 27,2018!I’m upset I don’t have a reliable phone for my health emergencys!I went to the government web site and it states 60 days for phone service 12 months for internet. If something health wise happens to me I’m dead!I deserve better Safelink.Could someone call and help me?

I am not Alex, but i fully Agree with him. I had to have my phone replaced due to losing it. Shortly after it was replaced, i started having problem receiving my minutes every month, i have to call every month and add at least 6 different codes just to get my minutes. If that’s not a PAIN IN THE ASS, i would like to know what is. I have tried to get a straight answer but all i got was a half ass accuse. I for one, will warn everyone to stay away from safelink. their customer care service numbers does everything but help, the only thing its good for is a run around. roger eldred says
My old state phoke quit workING and I cant get one from you because you say I have one already
Free Government Cell Phones says
First thing, Roger, is that it’s not “us,” because we are not your service provider. This is an independent informational website.
Second, it sounds as if your service provider is accurate when they say you already have one. Just because your phone stops working does not mean that your account has been terminated. For example, if your car stopped working, you would still have a car. Sounds like you need to get a replacement phone from your service provider.
Susie says

Susan Wells says
My application date was August 21, 2017 and I was enrolled as of September 2, 2017 but THEN your shippiing department obviously couldn’t read so they CHANGED my shipping address from 8705 Creek Trail Lane # 524 Box 132 TO PO Box 132 !!!! So the phone got sent back to the warehouse and I was on the phone with a rep for an hour , in which time my correct address was REPEATEDLY stated so as to be sure it was correct and I STILL didn’t receive my phone until I called AGAIN and I received it the following week! I LOST an entire month of MINUTES ….WAITING for the phone to be delivered to the CORRECT address! I am OWED 350 MINUTES and I’m sure you will disagree with me as SERVICE seems to be less than competent so far! I appreciate being able to have this service available right now, as I’ve been unemployed for 8 months! But I also want the service I deserve which is the minutes I could have been using while I was waiting nearly a MONTH for the phone to be shipped to the CORRECT address!
Free Government Cell Phones says
“We” didn’t cause the problem, Susan, because “we” are an independent informational website, NOT a free government cell phone company. You need to check with Safelink’s customer service team to get you question answered. (Yeah, sorry, we know that’s exactly what you’re complaining about, but they are the only ones with the answers and info you need.)

To Whom It May Concern:
I received this email 10/15/2017 from you saying you had received my application and eligibility documentation. I had a problem with a female Safelink employee via my land line yesterday evening, 10/16/2017. She was unable to answer my questions and I was very frustrated with the whole experience. After I received your confirmation letter regarding my documents, I tried to activate my phone. She told me that I would have to wait another 7-10 days. I asked why, and I never understood what her answer was. Her English was not too good and she didn’t seem to know the correct answer to give me. She then told me that if I was not alright with her answer, I could start the whole process over again. I took this a as threat.
Now I am receiving email from you that states you did not get my proof. Please address this issue and let me know when I can finally activate my phone. I have had it for 3 weeks now.
Thank you,
Patricia Foster

Carol Bowers says
My husband and I are veterans and have safelink phones. First of October we did not get any minutes, normally it is 500 and due to Irma my phone is out of minutes. Had the phones for vets stopped? Is that why we did not gets minutes?
Free Government Cell Phones says
There’s no way for us to know because we’re not Safelink, Carol. But one thing to consider — only one free government cell phone is permitted per household. But you should call customer service ASAP to get your question answered.
Karmala says
I have had my safelink phone for about 2 months. During that time, I have had countless calls/messages from the company telling me that I needed to call a certain number to activate… which I did… each and every time. I make at least a dozen calls a week, yet my phone was deactivated today for lack of use. Policy requires at least one phone call a month. As stated I have well exceeded that requirement.
When I call the 800 number for “support” all I get is a looped message and then disconnected. I am homeless and waiting for a call about a job. Any ideas on how to proceed so that I can get results and a reactivated phone?
Free Government Cell Phones says
That’s a bad story, Karbala, and we feel for you. We fear that your phone has been deactivated and that you will not be able to reactivate it. The only way to find out is to speak to customer service. Ask to speak to a supervisor. You can find the phone number on this page.

I have this free gov. phone with i do not know with whom!! Tried the 611 number but no one can understand that version of english. This is the 3rd phone from i think is assusance but after repeated attempts of calling the 611 and being told call back later i gave up. The phones i ngot (allcatel) do not hold a charge for 1 day. Ifinally found an 800 number to call to “BUY” A new FLIP PHONE (ALCATEL) and foolishly i did give them my credit card #. Very low limit on credit card. Was assured this was a very good phone. Got the phone and not any better than ones i had. And also got “fraud” alert on my credit card someone trying to use it to buy clothing online. This was only time i have given my credit card n# on the phone so?????. Can i transfer to another company or can i upgrade to a ZTE ANDROID PHONE? Friend gave me the ZTE ANDROID.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Yes, you can switch to another company, but “when” depends on what kind of Lifeline plan you have. You can switch providers after 60 days if you have talk and text only. You must wait a full year if your plan includes data.

I am helping someone who has had his phone for over a year and it no longer holds a charge. What should he do?
Free Government Cell Phones says
You have a couple choices, Paul. (1) Call customer service at 6-1-1 and see if they will replace your phone for free. They probably won’t, but they may because you’re a long-term customers. (2) Ask your service provider’s customer service team which phones are compatible with its network, then go out and purchase one of those phons. Or (3) Switch to a different free government cell phone company. As a new customer you will qualify for a smartphone.

Sorry to hear about those problems, Norbert. Here’s an article that tells you all the ways to qualify. Maybe that will clear things up for you:

I have been submitting documentation of driver license ,electric bill, state issued benefit documents etc ,ect, since July and been doing so every 3 days for 3 months and no matter what I do upload , take a picture or any thing I always get application pending , So I call and the same answer ever time it’s either expired or can’t read it , I don’t believe them first of all the documents are with in the time frame they want and the photos I send are perfectly clear on my tablet and on my friends phones. what is the problem do they just want my info for identity theft ! it’s been the same thing over and over !!!!
Free Government Cell Phones says
We think it can probably be attributed to incompetence, not fraud, Kathy.
Tereasa D Gillispie says
I enrolled in Safelink thru life line and requested a sim card to use my own phone. I have received 2 sim cards neither sim card worked even after getting technical support 2 different times. I was then told that I could no get a free phone instead unless I cancelled my account and then waited 90 days. This does not seem fair as I was not told that here was no sim card that will work in a samsug 6 that was purchased and unlocked from verizon.
Free Government Cell Phones says
That’s a crazy answer, Tereasa. It may be time for you to ask USAC for help. Contact them at USAC.org.

My speech is severely compromised, I can’t be easily understood. So calling Safelink wireless’ customer service number isn’t easy.
A CS email works but I cannot find one. Can anyone help?
Free Government Cell Phones says
It’s very odd that Safelink has a voice/hearing/vision-impaired policy, but no way for those customers to communicate with the company.
We’d recommend that you look at the websites for each of the Lifeline companies in your state, and enroll with one that has a customer chat or email service available for its customer service team. Here’s where you can find all the service provider’s in your state:
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/states

Lisa r tyus says
I never received my replacement device and now my service is turned off and I need my service
Free Government Cell Phones says
This is a common, but unfortunate situation, Lisa. How long had you had your service with your former service provider? If you had voice and text only, you can apply with another company after you’ve had the account for 60 days. If you have data as part of your plan, you must stay with your provider for one year. But if those periods of time have expired, you can enroll with any company in your state. Here’s where you can find a list of those companies in your state:
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/states
Harold brian says
You say I have a phone but I never had one Harold Brian email *******@comcast.net 732 276 **** thank you. I want to apply for phone

We’re not Safelink, Harold, so we didn’t tell you anything. If Safelink was incorrect about your phone status, there is a way to correct it. Here’s what it says on the USAC website says about your problem:
“My company says I already have Lifeline, but I don’t. Call USAC to find out which company thinks you are their customer. Then, contact the company you want to sign up with, and ask them to transfer your Lifeline.”
You can find the contact info for the USAC on its website, USAC.org

Safelink gives nothing but the run around [ MERRY GO ROUN ] I use Adobe Fill and sign .. send and track .. I have proof of every single document … I have even with responded in Safelink’s own self-addressed envelopes which miraculously never arrived on two separate occasions. When they get all the undisputable documentation. They are unable to find the application [SUBMITTED FIVE TIMES ]
I have reached the full conclusion with absolutely no reservations… SAFELINK WIRELESS’s AGENDA IS DELIBERATELY ATTEMPTING TO DISCOURAGE and FRUSTRATE APPLICANTS TO ACCEPT THEIR ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT QUALIFY.
Alex j Findlay says
RESPONDING TO MY OWN POST [correcting a typo] WHO NOT NOT QUALIFY SHOULD HAVE DISPLAY AS [ THOSE WHO LEGITIMATELY QUALIFY]
Free Government Cell Phones says
Aha! Makes sense now, Alex. Thanks for the correction.
Free Government Cell Phones says
Shouldn’t all Lifeline free government cell phone companies discourage those who do not qualify? What are we missing here, Alex?

Free Government Cell Phones says
We think you’re saying that the company intentionally discourages qualified applicants in order to sign them up for paid services. Is that correct, Alex? What services have they tried to sell you?
Jacqueline Vickers says
My name is Jacqueline Vickers, I applied for a Safelink phone in Douglas, Georgia with your representative named Christie, I was approved on the same day, I have not received my phone yet, and it has been two weeks, almost three. Can you please e-mail me , the status of my phone and the address where the phone is going to be mailed to, now this do not make any kind of sense. Please let me know, I have went back to the location where I was approved for the phone and Christie is no longer there and I cannot find my confirmation identification.
Free Government Cell Phones says
If you visit the Safelink website, you’ll find a “Check Your Status” function. Give it a try.

Donna traylor says
I never received my phone
Free Government Cell Phones says
How long has it been, Donna? Most of the companies say it will take about two weeks, but our readers have often said it takes three or four weeks or even longer. I am using my grandson phone and need one of my own my address is **** ******. Last 4 # of Social ****. what do I have to do to get help with this problem?
Free Government Cell Phones says
Crazy story, Carol. There’s no rational reason for this kind of delay. Try this: Call Safelink’s customer service team. Ask to speak to a supervisor. Read the article at the following link before you make that call.
https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/faq/file-official-complaint-about-your-lifeline-service
The article tells you how to make a complaint and who to make it to. Tell your “service” provider that you are going to file complaints with the FCC, USAC and your state’s public utility commission if they don’t take some action to solve your problem.
